It was bound to happen sometime. After all, no German side has ever been able to complete a season sans defeat, and last weekend, Bayern Munich finally slipped up and ended up dropping points. Since 2013, it has eluded them, and with another Champions League campaign beginning, this time under new coach Niko Kovac, die Roten are hoping to finally overcome their frustrating record and grace the final for the first time since that historic all-German affair at Wembley which saw them beat Dortmund 2-1.
Meanwhile, Ajax also won on matchday one and will be hoping to spring an upset at the Allianz Arena. The visitors have also been in good form, as they are unbeaten in their last nine Champions League games and have kept a clean sheet in seven of their last eight games across all comps. However, they arrive having a whole slew of players injured, and despite Bayern's "struggles" in the Bundesliga, the hosts are still the heavy favorites here to pick up all three points. The last time Ajax came here, they were thrashed 4-0 by die Roten and they obviously will hope to avoid another repeat of that same 2004 result.
