Gareth Southgate is in line to sign a new contract to remain as England boss until 2022.

England manager Gareth Southgate is set to be rewarded with a new four-year contract. Having took over from Sam Allardyce in 2016, Southgate, who enjoyed successes with England's youth teams has given the senior side an all-new outlook.

The 48-year-old manager has been hailed by many for taking England to a fourth-place finish at this year's FIFA World Cup held in Russia. The English FA executive Martin Glenn revealed after the tournament that the association was considering the possibility of making Southgate stay beyond Euro 2020.

As a result, a meeting to discuss a new contract with the FA board has been scheduled for Thursday. With his old contract ending in at that time, the former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender has reportedly agreed improved terms which comes with a significant raise in wages.

According to the BBC, the English boss is expected to earn a reported £3 million a year. With him reportedly earning £1.8 million a year at the moment in addition to performance bonuses, the new salary will place him above that of his predecessors Sam Allardyce and Roy Hodgson.

The pair is believed to have earned £2.5 million per annum during their tenure.
