The world was shocked by CR7's sudden absence from the ceremony in which Luka Modric was crowned as the Best European player for the 2017-18 season.

Cristiano Ronaldo's absence from the UEFA Gala held on Thursday raised some eyebrows among football fans, and one of the main protagonists of that evening confirmed why the Portuguese ace chose not to make an appearance in that ceremony.

Speaking about his former team-mate and the eventual winner of the award, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos referred to CR7's absence in a report by Football España.

"I don't think Cristiano is unhappy because Modric won the award. He has to be mad because he didn't win it for himself, but not because one of his team-mates won it," Ramos said, confirming claims about Ronaldo's desire to which he's nominated.

CR7 was the favorite to win the award over former team-mate Modric and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, but a UEFA spokesman revealed he chose not to attend the gala at the last minute, maybe aware about who would be the recipient of the award.

Be that as it may, Ramos believes that UEFA's choice for the award was the right one, which made CR7's decision not to attend the gala even more embarrassing.

"I think that if there is one player who deserves this award, that is Luka," Ramos concluded.

This is not the first time in which Ramos has referred to Cristiano Ronaldo in such terms, especially after he left Real Madrid. Soon after the gala concluded, Ramos had already stated that he didn't care what Cristiano did. This might go on to confirm that CR7's relationship with some of his former team-mates at Real Madrid was not the best, and that some had grown tired of his behavior.
