The Catalans are refusing to back down in their pursuit for the French midfielder's signature.

President of Barcelona Josep Maria Bartomeu rekindled speculations surrounding Paul Pogba's purported move to Barcelona with his statement's after his club's Supercopa triumph over Sevilla on Sunday. Having been quizzed by reporters after the match on the possibility of the French midfielder joining the Catalan's, he stated:

"I won't speak of any names, we have respect for all clubs and there are 20 days left.

"We'll see which players come out. We're focused on the league, so it's best to ask [Eric] Abidal, [Ramon] Planes or Pep Segura about players.

"There's still time to do business."

Paul Pogba himself, after leading Manchester United to a 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Friday, fueled exit rumors in a post-match interview by stating that he cannot play his best football if he is "unhappy".

"If you're not happy, you cannot give your best.

"There are things that I cannot say otherwise I will get fined," Pogba infamously declared.

With the transfer window closing early in England, and with Manchester United doing very little business as far as recruitment is concerned, it will undoubtedly take more than the ordinary for Barcelona to successfully broker any deal involving the 25-year-old.

Following the departure of midfield pair Andres Iniesta and Paulinho, the Spanish giants have adequately beefed up their ranks with the like for like signings of Arthur and Arturo Vidal. A personality like Paul Pogba's will undoubtedly be a dream but will he be the right fit for the club's philosophy?

Since returning to Manchester United in a mega-transfer deal from Juventus after leaving for a scanty fee as a teenager, Paul Pogba is yet to live up to the level associated with the money it took to bring him back. Many fans have a reminiscence of the Frenchman that thrived alongside the likes of Marchisio, Vidal, and Pirlo in the Serie A not too long ago and often confuse his past form with his current status.

However, the candid narrative is that he is yet to consistently replicate that form despite showing glimpses in games in his two years with the Red Devils. Paul Pogba's potential cannot be underrated and his knack to boss the midfield under the right circumstances is also intact as he displayed during France's quest to World Cup glory back in July.

His utilization at Manchester United over the years has been questionable but there is the tendency of him becoming a big hit at Barcelona. The odds are indeed very high in that respect as the urge to succeed is mammoth in a team where he will be surrounded by Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Philippe Coutinho among a host of other incredible talents.

Nevertheless, despite Paul Pogba's key attributes of possessing a sharp vision, an enviable passing and shooting range, as well as an imposing figure to dominate the midfield, he falls short of the core traits of a player with the prospect to blossom in Barcelona – a club whose philosophy upholds positioning, possession and pressing above anything else.

In a quick synopsis, Paul Pogba is not exactly the go-to guy when it comes to players with great positional sense. The Frenchman's reluctance to release balls early also puts his decision-making under scrutiny whereas his ability to lose balls recurrently when pressed adds to his Achilles heel.

As a result, although he is well on course to becoming adept in his role, he will be required to readjust his style in order to develop that part of his game and suit the Barcelona system. Pogba may not have the Xavi or Iniesta persona and neither could he be the like-for-like successor for the calm and composed Sergio Busquets who is nearing the end of his peak years but in the right system he be very useful for Barcelona should the club manage to price him out of Manchester United.

That's not to say the Blaugrana will need to compromise on its philosophy but if they are indeed interested in bringing the 25-year-old midfielder to La Liga, then there is a solution in the pipeline to tackle any incongruity.
