Key UEFA Champions League Playoff matches

  •  BATE Borisov vs, PSV Eindhoven

The host, who the Belarusian top-flight league for the 13th successive time last season will fancy their chances against their Dutch opponents having defeated HJK Helsinki and Qarabağ in prior encounters to set up this one. They posses an admirable record in playoffs on the European stage as they boast wins in all four previous UEFA Champions League ones and three victories out of four in the Europa League.

PSV, on the other hand, will feature in their first UCL Playoff since the 2013/2014 season. The Dutch club has not quite had things go its way in Europe as it’s yet to record a single win in 11 outings (four draws and six defeats). Their last victory came via a 2-1 scoreline against CSKA Moscow back in December 2015.

Having recorded four wins in their five recent games, PSV should be well motivated to put up a strong test away to BATE.

  • Benfica vs PAOK

After a shambolic campaign in Europe last season Benfica will aim at getting back to winning ways, starting with their visitors from Greece. The Lisbon-based club failed to win any of its group-stage games in the Champions League last season despite making an eighth successive appearance.

They will, however, hope to build on the four wins they have recorded in their last five matches coming into an important game as this one. For PAOK, the objective will be to break the group-stage qualification jinx as they have been eliminated at the playoffs stage in the last four seasons.

Having defeated Basel and Spartak Moscow to set up the upcoming clash, the readiness of the Greek club cannot be understated.
