Ethiopian Premier League geschiedenis, opzet, organisatie, media-aandacht
De Ethiopian Premier League, zoals de naam al zegt, is het hoogste niveau van het kampioenschap in Ethiopië. De competitie, zoals we die vandaag de dag kennen, werd opgericht in 1997 – of 1990 volgens de Ethiopische kalender. Het verving de voormalige eerste divisie die in 1944 begon.
De competitie begint doorgaans in november en hanteert een dubbel round-robin systeem, wat betekent dat elk team zowel thuis als uit tegen elke andere club speelt per seizoen. De Ethiopische topcompetitie kent een promotie/degradatie systeem, waarbij de onderste drie teams aan het einde van het seizoen degraderen naar de Ethiopian Higher League, de tweede divisie van het land. Het team dat als eerste eindigt, wordt gekroond tot kampioen en ontvangt een ticket voor de CAF Champions League.
