About Supercoppa Italiana Femminile

Supercoppa Italiana Femminile History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Supercoppa Italiana Femminile (Italian Women’s Super Cup) is an annual, one-off competition featuring the winners of Serie A Femminile and the Coppa Italia Femminile (Women’s Italian Cup) from the prior season. The competition was created in 1997 with the aim of modeling off it on the men’s competition, which was started in 1988.

With the exception of the 2020/21 season, during which four teams were involved, the Supercoppa Italiana Femminile has generally featured two teams. If the same team wins both the Serie A Femminile and the Coppa Italia Femminile, then the match will be contested between that team and the runners up in the Coppa Italia Femminile.

Torres, Brescia, and Juventus are among the teams who have won multiple times in the Supercoppa Italiana Femminile, and in recent times, Roma have also won the competition.

Media rights to the Supercoppa Italiana Femminile in Italy have been held by various entities since the tournament’s inception in 1997. Public broadcaster RAI provided TV coverage at the start of the 21st century up until 2009, followed by La7 and Sky Italia securing TV rights for the early to mid 2010s.

Rai Sport then acquired media rights for a brief period in the latter part of the 2010s before TIMVision briefly secured TV and live-streaming rights. In 2022, DAZN successfully negotiated the acquisition of exclusive TV and live-streaming rights for the Supercoppa Italiana Femminile in Italy.
