About Coppa Italia Femminile

Coppa Italia Femminile History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

Coppa Italia Femminile is Italy’s premier women’s football cup competition. Founded in 1971, this knockout tournament is organized by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and features clubs from the top two women’s divisions: Serie A Femminile and Serie B Femminile.

The season follows an autumn-spring schedule, typically beginning in August or September and concluding in May. Each tournament is contested with 26 teams, with the winners qualifying for the Supercoppa Italiana, where they compete against the Serie A Femminile champions.

The cup consists of five rounds: a preliminary round, round of 32, round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals, culminating in a final. It follows a single-elimination format, with matches played over a single leg, except for the quarterfinals and semifinals, which take place over two legs.

Torres has been one of the most successful teams in the tournament's history, winning the title four times in the 2000s (2000-01, 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2007-08). Juventus and Lazio have also achieved notable success in the Coppa Italia Femminile.

Did you know? While Coppa Italia Femminile was founded in 1971, Italy’s first national women’s cup competition was held the previous year by the FICF, with Real Torino as the winner. However, this achievement remains unrecognized by the FIGC.
