About Campionato Giovanissimi Nazionali
History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Campionato Giovanissimi Nazionali is a series of youth football tournaments in Italy organized by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). It was founded in 1983 and has evolved to involve under-15 teams from the Serie A, Serie B, and Serie C leagues.
One of the primary tournaments in the Campionato Giovanissimi Nazionali is the Campionato Nazionale Under-15 Serie A e B, where youth teams from Italy’s top two divisions compete. This event started in 1983 but was cancelled from 2019 to 2021 before returning for the 2021-22 season.
Some of Italy’s most notable football clubs, including Inter Milan, Roma, Atalanta, and AC Milan, have had significant success in this category. Atalanta was the first team to achieve back-to-back victories, winning the titles in the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons by defeating Inter and Lazio, respectively. Rome-based football club Lodigiani was the inaugural champion, winning the first edition in 1983-84.
Another tournament within the Campionato Giovanissimi Nazionali is the Campionato Nazionale Under-15 Serie C, which exclusively features youth teams from Italy’s third football division. This competition began in the 2016-17 season, with Parma winning the inaugural title. Cesena became the first team to win consecutive editions, claiming victories in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns.
The Campionato Giovanissimi Nazionali also includes the Campionato Giovanissimi Dilettanti, an under-15 competition involving amateur clubs from the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti (National Amateur League). Other tournaments, such as the Supercoppa Under-15 and Coppa Giovanissimi Professionisti, previously existed but were abolished in 2019 and 2011 respectively.
