About World Football Challenge
The World Football Challenge was an international football club association competition that featured teams from Europe and North America. It was founded in 2009 and was scrapped in 2012 after it was replaced by the International Champions Cup (ICC).
In its three-year lifespan, the pre-season tournament held in North America experienced series of changes. Having started with just four teams in 2009 (Chelsea, Club America, Inter Milan, and AC Milan), the number was increased to 13 in the 2011 edition - with five MLS teams making their debut. The number decreased again in the 2012 edition and the title was contested by 11 clubs from UEFA and CONCACAF.
Chelsea won the first edition in 2009 and Real Madrid secured the titles for 2011 and 2012 respectively.
