UEFA U19 European Championship History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The UEFA U19 European Championship is an annual cup competition contested by the continent’s under-19 men’s national teams. This tournament began in 1948 initially as the FIFA International Youth Tournament before becoming a UEFA tournament in 1956. In 1980, it evolved into an U18 tournament before increasing the age limit by a year, thus adopting the current format, in 2001. When held in even-numbered years, the competition acts as the UEFA qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, with the top five teams from the UEFA U19 European Championship earning tickets to the FIFA event.
