About Premijer Liga
Premijer Liga History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Premijer Liga (Premier League) is the top level of professional football in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Founded in 2000, it is operated by the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and like many other leagues around the world, operates on a relegation-promotion format. The two worst-performing teams are demoted to the the First League of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the First League of the Republika Srpska, while the winners of those leagues receive promotion to the Premijer Liga.
Teams from the Premijer Liga are also eligible to feature in European competition, depending on where they finish in the league table at the end of each season. The league’s format was modified at the start of the 2018/19 season, in which each team plays one another three times.
Zrinjski, Željezničar, and Sarajevo are among the most successful teams in Premijer Liga history.
TV broadcast and live-streaming rights to the Premijer Liga in Bosnia and Herzegovina have been held by different entities since the league’s creation in 2000. These include TV Pink, BH Telecom, Arena Sport, and Nova BH. In 2022, Sport Klub acquired media rights to the Premijer Liga in a multi-year deal.
