About International Champions Cup

International Champions Cup History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The International Champions Cup was a friendly tournament used as preseason by European and American clubs. It was launched in 2013 with only two teams playing for the title, but the most recent edition welcomed 12 teams from all over the world who played in 17 different venues.

Over the years, the International Champions Cup featured some of the top teams from the best European leagues, including Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Barcelona. All teams were scheduled to play three games, and whichever club earned the most points claimed the title even if they did not face most of their rivals. In previous editions, there were different trophies handed out across the world, as there were ICC trophies for America, Europe, and Asia.

The competition took place without any interruptions between 2013 and 2019. In 2020, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the International Champions Cup to be canceled until further notice.
