KMCI-TV history, coverage, features
KMCI-TV, also known as 38 The Spot, is a regional US TV channel licensed to Lawrence, Kansas. It is an independent TV station owned by E. W. Scripps Company. The channel first aired on February 13, 1988.
NBC-affiliated and Missouri-licensed KSHB-TV is a sister channel of KMCI-TV, and both channels share their TV studios in Kansas City, Missouri.
KMCI-TV is available on digital channel 25 (UHF) and virtual channel 38 (PSIP). It is also accessible via cable, satellite and IPTV through the following TV providers:
- Charter Spectrum: Channel 8 (SD), Channel 1230 (HD)
- Consolidated Communications: Channel 8, Channel 632 (HD)
- Comcast Xfinity: Channel 2 (Kansas), Channel 5 (Missouri), Channel 807 (HD)

In the past, KMCI-TV has broadcast games of Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City as part of an exclusive deal with the club. It has also been home to some of the sporting teams from the University of Kansas, such as the Kansas Jayhawks.
