Eurosport is a pan-European television channel owned and operated by Discovery, Inc. The channel was launched on February 5, 1989 but suffered a brief closure period of one month in May 1991. Eventually, Eurosport would grow into one of the most watched sports channels in Europe due to its large number of broadcasting rights covering a wide range of sports.
Eurosport is known for owning a wide variety of sports rights without needing to bid for any of the top football leagues in Europe. Some of their top deals have included Olympic Games broadcasts, the Wimbledon tournament, motor sport events, and basketball competitions. For example, Eurosport owns broadcasting rights for all Grand Slams in the ATP tour.
Eurosport Deutschland is one of the network’s most watched channels in Europe, especially since it is a free-to-air channel in Germany, making it the only Eurosport channel with that condition in Europe.
The German version of this channel has aired in the past football events such as the Bundesliga, the Fräuen Bundesliga, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Eurosport Deutschland has also included sports such as tennis, motor sports, cycling, and bike racing. On top of it all, Eurosport Deutschland has also aired the Winter and Summer Olympics.
Eurosport Deutschland is available on both SD and HD in most of the country’s territory.
