Canal 44 UDG TV History, Coverage, Features
Canal 44 is a public television network owned and operated by the Universidad de Guadalajara, commonly known as U de G. It was launched on January 31, 2011, to air cultural shows and programs related to life in the University. The channel is part of the university’s radio and TV services led by the popular Radio Universidad de Guadalajara. Canal 44 capped a two-decades effort to see the channel come to life after two unsuccessful requests by university authorities to the Mexican Telecommunications Institute (IFT).
The channel’s programming has evolved from cultural shows and nature programs to add news broadcasts, cooking shows, documentaries, public service programs, educational shows, tv series, sports broadcasts, and more. Some of the most-watched shows aired by this channel over the years have included coverage of the International Film Festival of Guadalajara and the International Book Fair in Guadalajara.
When it comes to sports, the channel has been in charge of covering home games for the Leones Negros of the Universidad de Guadalajara in both the Liga de Expansión and the Liga MX during the team’s brief stint in the Mexican top-flight. Additional sports coverage has also included sports news broadcasts and highlights shows featuring the Leones Negros and all the school’s different sports’ teams.
Canal 44 has mostly been available in Guadalajara, although some cable and satellite companies have added the channel’s SD feed to their feed.
