beIN Sports Xtra history, coverage, features
beIN Sports Xtra 1 is a pay-television channel owned and operated by the beIN Media Group. The channel is part of a network that saw the light on June 1, 2012. Nevertheless, the network would only be known worldwide as beIN Sports until January 2014.
Over the years, beIN Sports Xtra 1 has aired a large variety of disciplines out of the network’s vast broadcasting rights’ catalogue. Some of the sports covered on this channel have included football, rugby, cricket, handball, motorsports, tennis, basketball, and multi-sport events such as the Olympic Games. Both domestic and international competitions have been aired on this channel over time since it is used as an additional channel for exclusive live events.
Speaking about football, beIN Sports Xtra 1 has aired content for leagues such as La Liga, the English Premier League, the Italian Serie A, the French Ligue 1, the Qatar Stars League, the Moroccan First Division, and competitions featuring lower-tier tournaments such as the English Championship and the FA Cup. Added to that, beIN Sports Xtra 1 has also aired content for club tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the CAF Champions League.
beIN Sports Xtra 1 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed saw the light afterwards to become the main option to watch this channel. A downscaled version of beIN Sports Xtra 1 may be available for users who do not have access to HD technology in this country.
