The Arsenal midfielder urges fans to shun away from piling pressure on the national team.

With England excelling and clinching respective World Cups on the under-20 and under-17 levels last year, many are expecting the senior side to continue the trend. The Three Lions have failed in a host of attempts to clinch the prestigious intercontinental trophy since last winning it in 1966.

It has indeed been a long time coming and, justifiably so, English fans are looking forward to seeing their side bring the accolade home. Nonetheless, Arsenal's Jack Wilshere believes it will be dangerous to set unrealistic goals approaching the upcoming tournament in Russia.

"The World Cup is a massive thing for us and we want to do well.

"We don't want to set ourselves any targets but I think going through after the World Cup the group is in a good position," he declared according to AFP's Kieran Canning.

"If you look over the past years, especially Rio (before World Cup 2014) -- we were confident going into that and it didn't work out. And with this group of players, it wouldn't be fair."

Jack Wilshere’s impressive form for Arsenal in recent times earned him a call-up for the first time since he last featured for England in the Euro 2016 against Iceland.
