Lionel Messi entered Spanish football's history books yet again as his Barcelona side eased past Girona at the Camp Nou.

The Argentine forward topped up his feat of being La Liga’s highest top goalscorer with 371 goals by becoming the player with the most assist in the history of the competition. The Catalans' talisman was called into action in the 5th minute when he slotted in a through ball past the Girona defense for Luis Suarez to finish off.

The Uruguayan unerringly brought the game to parity after the visitors had gone in front inside the first three minutes. Lionel Messi’s involvement subsequently took his assist tally in La Liga to 148 – the most in the history of the Spanish domestic league – and a total career tally of 290 across all competitions.

Any script of an impending upset was shredded after Luis Suarez returned the favor of assisting the Barcelona No. 10 to get his side’s second in the 30th minute. It was simply a goals galore afterward as Messi struck again with an audacious low freekick to take the scoreline to 3-1.

Two more Luis Suarez goals and a first La Liga goal for Philippe Coutinho capped off a scintillating performance for the unbeaten La Liga leaders.
