José Mourinho's term as Manchester United boss hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows, and former club legends have taken turns at criticizing the team's playing style.
Today, former striker Eric Cantona aimed a dig at the team's style under Mourinho, admitting that their supporters -and himself- want The Special One to embrace a much more attacking philosophy.
United always play in a good way, to enjoy the game. Even in Sir Matt Busby's time, it was the philosophy of the club, a creative game with passing and movement. Also winning things is very important. Mourinho will win a lot of things with United. But me, I prefer more fancy and creative manner of playing," Cantona stated in an interview with FullTimeDevils.
The former striker, who's infamous brawl with a fan in 1997 forced Man United's hierarchy to sack him, compared the club to Barcelona, adding that such an approach would also be frowned upon over there.
"It is like Barcelona. If Barcelona played in a defensive way, nobody would understand. At United, that philosophy is very strong and now it is a bit difficult to understand," the Frenchman added.
But despite all his criticism, Cantona still believes in Mourinho's potential success as Manchester United's boss, even adding that he's quite fond of Mourinho.
"I love Mourinho. It is just I prefer it if it is more offensive because it is United. But I think Mourinho will win things with them," Cantona concluded.
