A slight change in diet has gone a long way to help the Argentine superstar.

Aside his apparent childhood condition, Lionel Messi used to battle illness from time to time – even on the fieldof play. In 2013, the Albiceleste skipper fell sick prior to his side’s World Cup qualification game against Bolivia. With the cause unknown at the time, the player’s former manager, Sabella, blamed it on nerves.

A similar incident occurred in 2014 as the 30-year-old forward was sidelined after becoming unwell in Bucharest ahead of his country’s friendly game against Romania. In 2016 Lionel Messi, once again, fell ill on a flight from Buenos Aires to San Juan while Argentina was due to play Colombia in a World Cup qualifying game.

In a recent interview on America TV's La Cornisa, the Barcelona talisman reveal what might have caused it and how he managed to fix the issue by a personal effort.

"At 22, 23... [it was] chocolate, alfajores [South American filled biscuits], fizzy drinks. Now I eat well: fish, meat, vegetables, salads.

"Everything is organized and taken care of. Sometimes a bit of wine, but that's not a problem.

"I really noticed the change when it came to vomiting. They said it could be a lot of things, eventually I changed and it didn't happen anymore."

Giuliano Poser, an Italian doctor, is also said to have played a role in curing Messi of his persistent ailment.
