Vitória de Guimarães will be the Primeira Liga's automatic representative in the Europa League. Portugal dropped from fifth to seventh place in the UEFA association coefficient rankings at the end of the 2016-17 season. As a result, the league has lost one of its UEFA Champions League berths.
