Preview

Spain experienced a roller-coaster ride in their first game, as they found themselves down in less than five minutes after Cristiano Ronaldo converted his spot-kick. Still, La Furia Roja managed to claw their way back into the game twice through Diego Costa's brace, and Nacho, the culprit who gave away the penalty, redeemed himself by scoring a long-range effort.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo was on fire that evening, and netted a sublime free-kick to complete his hat-trick and secure a point for Portugal. Of course, not winning the opening game doesn't mean that it's all over, as Spain even lost their group opener back in 2010 and still went on to win the tournament. Naturally, though, Fernando Hierro's side will be looking to pick up all three points against an Iran side who only narrowly squeezed by Morocco due to an own goal by the North African side.

Iran may be brimming with confidence thanks to their lucky break, but they'll be obviously up against it here. Several of Spain's players, including David De Gea, who badly fumbled the second goal, will be eager to make amends, while Diego Costa has started off well and will be looking to add more to his goal tally. That being said, the Iranians will have closely watched their game with Portugal and will know that Spain aren't looking the most solid at the back, so will try to exploit that on the counter-attack.

Hierro could opt to tinker with his squad here in order to give others some game-time and mix things up, while Iran will probably stick with the same starting XI that featured against Morocco.
