Jose Mourinho praised the young midfield after another impressive outing.

Manchester United fans have been crying out for the perfect replacement for the outgoing Michael Carrick and it seems they might have found it in Scott McTominay. The academy graduate is slowly capturing the hearts of the Red Devil’s fan base with sublime performances in recent weeks.

Having shined in last Wednesday’s Champions League draw in Spain against Sevilla, the midfielder was tasked with the job of keeping Eden Hazard at bay as Chelsea visited Old Trafford. Although the Belgian playmaker impressed, he was giving a good run for his money by the 21-year-old Scot before being replaced by Pedro in the 73rd minute.

Speaking after the game, Jose Mourinho commended his player’s effort as his side consolidate their second position with a 2-1 victory.

“He [McTominay] was in the academy last season but I think he’s very mature now.

"Of course, he has a lot to learn, of course, he will make mistakes.

"But he has the pathway to become one of the best because he has a great personality.

“McTominay is a fantastic player, a player that is a modern midfield player, he can do everything.

“The only thing he's not doing yet is scoring goals, which he can, the only reason he isn't is because of the job I am giving him.”

McTominay has featured for Manchester United six times in the Premier League this season of which he’s started in three.
