Arena resigned as manager of the Stars and Stripes after their failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

The US men’s national team are currently manager-less. Bruce Arena stepped down as boss after a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign which saw the Stars and Stripes miss out on a ticket to Russia.

A number of candidates have been linked with the vacant position, but according to France Football magazine (as per the Sun), one well-known manager is leading the race. That person is Laurent Blanc.

The Frenchman has loads of coaching experience from his days with Bordeaux, PSG, and the French national team. As a player, he won the Premier League with Man United and lifted the World Cup with Les Bleus in 1998.

The 51-year-old has been out of work since leaving PSG last year. He has snubbed offers to manage Fenerbahce and Antalyaspor; furthermore, he has been the subject of interest from Major League Soccer clubs.

USMNT, who failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986, need to rebuild and plan for Qatar 2022. Blanc is USA’s main target, but he is not the only option.

Under-20s coach Tab Ramos is also in the running to succeed Arena. Peter Vermes of Sporting Kansas City and Gerardo Martino of Atlanta United have also been linked with the position.
