Verizon FiOS TV
Based in New York City, Verizon FiOS TV is an offshoot of the nationwide Verizon telephone company, which was formed from the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE in 2000. Like most American phone companies, Verizon can ultimately trace its history back to the old monolithic Ma Bell. FiOS is short to "Fiber Optic Service," and their entire lineup is comprised of sharp, clear digital video. Video on demand, pay-per-view, and DVR options are all available, but they don't offer Internet or telephone bundling with the cable options.
Verizon FiOS offers a hefty lineup of sports channels where you can enjoy live soccer coverage. These include ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic Sports, ESPN Deportes, Fox Sport World Español, the Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports in Español, GOL TV, and GOL TV Español. You can also receive local sports channels (in English and Spanish) that occasionally include soccer coverage in their programming.
In general, Verizon FiOS TV offers:
- HDTV service.
- DVR service, for an extra fee.
- Movies and Premium events on demand.
- Free local stations.
- An online programming guide.
- Fiber-optic based, digital cable TV programming.
- Reception that isn't affected by bad weather, like satellite TV can be
