The Spanish giants have inquired about the French star's availability.

After securing the service of AS Monaco's Thomas Lemar, Atletico Madrid has turned it attention to adding another World Cup winner to their roster. Los Rojiblancos have contacted Chelsea about the possibility of bringing Olivier Giroud to the Wanda Metropolitano this summer on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The 31-year-old forward was involved in the attack for France in their triumphant campaign at Russia 2018 although he failed to get his name on the scoresheet in the month-long competition. Nevertheless, Diego Simeone has identified him as the man his team needs to lead the attack for the upcoming seasom.

According to Eurosport France, the Blues are open to doing business albeit bringing Giroud to the club from Arsenal in January. However, they prefer an obligation to buy clause inserted in the contract instead of an option to buy Atleti is proposing.

With Gonzalo Higuain being heavily linked to reunite with his former manager at Napoli and new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, a move away for Giroud could very much be on the cards.
