Being able to play in the 2018 World Cup is Neymar's ultimate goal, and with that in mind, one of the doctors in charge of performing surgery on the Brazilian ace shared more details on how the recovery process could be shortened...or extended.
Brazil's physician Rodrigo Lasmar, who performed the surgery on Neymar's foot, revealed how the player reacted to the news of needing surgery rather than the initial diagnosis, which didn't require a visit to the operating room.
"He became really annoyed in the first moments, but his power of recovery and his mental strength allowed him to overcome that. He became very sad when he found out the seriousness of the injury and learned he needed surgery," Lasmar told L'Equipe.
Neymar picked up a season-ending injury while playing against Olympique Marseille back in February.
Regardless of the player's wishes, Lasmar stated that Neymar's availability for the World Cup will be determined after the initial recovery period of six weeks.
"After the operation, we set a target of six weeks before examining the evolution of his recuperation. From there, we'll do further imaging and detailed reviews that will help us define that return. We have to wait to see how it will be for that so we can detail the next steps and establish the day in which he can return to the field," the doctor added.
Neymar was ruled out for twelve weeks (three months) once PSG and Brazil's doctors determined that surgery was needed to help Neymar's right foot to heal. Since then, "Ney" has been spotted in a couple of night clubs, celebrating his sister's birthday. Added to that, he also attended the birthday of his girlfriend's sister this past weekend, where he was seen using crutches.
