Los Blancos got PSG in the round of 16, the Blaugrana was drawn against Chelsea.

The Champions League draw is over, handing us a number of exciting last 16 clashes. Juventus will lock horns with Tottenham in the knockout stage, while Liverpool faces a tricky matchup with Porto.

However, all the post-draw talk surrounds two fixtures: Real Madrid vs PSG and Chelsea vs Barcelona. The reason is very obvious: Los Blancos and Les Parisiens are two goalscoring European machines, while the form of and the history between Chelsea and Barcelona will make for a thrilling meeting.

Zidane’s side is the defending champion and will be eager to maintain their dominance in the Champions League. Valverde’s crew has done well so far and will love to get their hands on the title once more. Unfortunately, the stats paint a gloomy picture for Spain’s top two teams.

Real Madrid has faced PSG in a knockout stage only twice in history. On both occasions, the French club progressed – in the1992/93 UEFA Cup quarter-finals and 1993/94 Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals.

Los Blancos is yet to eliminate the Ligue 1 outfit in a knockout stage fixture, but their recent head-to-head record favors the Spanish outfit. Cristiano and Co. clashed with PSG in the group stage of the 15/16 season, with the Los Merengues winning one and drawing the other.

Barcelona knows how to handle English opponents in the knockout stage, progressing in six of their last seven meetings with Premier League clubs. However, the one and only English team to stop the Blaugrana in those seven matchups was Chelsea, the Catalan club’s last 16 opponent.

Furthermore, Lionel Messi’s inability to score past the Blues is worrying for the Camp Nou side. The Argentine is their go-to guy when in need of answers.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona can qualify for the quarter-final. However, an exit in the round of 16 is also possible.
