Over Primera División
Primera División History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
De Eerste Divisie van Peru (Primera División Perú) vormt de hoogste laag van het verenigingsvoetbal in Peru. Opgericht in 1912, hanteert het een systeem van promotie en degradatie, vergelijkbaar met vele andere competities wereldwijd, en wordt het georganiseerd door de Professionele Voetbal Sport Associatie (Asociación Deportiva de Fútbol Profesional - ADFP).
Hoewel het in 1912 werd opgericht, werd de Eerste Divisie van Peru pas in 1951 een volledig professionele entiteit, en de ADFP nam officieel de verantwoordelijkheid voor haar administratie over in 1962. Meer dan 20 clubs hebben het kampioenschap van deze competitie gewonnen sinds de oprichting van de eerste divisie meer dan 100 jaar geleden. De meerderheid van de competitietitels is echter gewonnen door een handvol teams, zoals Universitario, Alianza Lima en Sporting Cristal.
In totaal komen er acht teams uit de Eerste Divisie van Peru in aanmerking voor deelname aan de Copa Libertadores of de Copa Sudamericana. Het seizoen begint gewoonlijk in het begin van februari en eindigt eind november of begin december. Het is opgedeeld in drie fasen: het Apertura-toernooi (Torneo Apertura), het Clausura-toernooi (Torneo Clausura) en de play-offs.
