While many expected Redknapp as the new England manager, Hodgson was officially announced today. Will the current West Brom manager lead England to glory?

Roy Hodgson has become England's new manager. The English FA officially announced the signing of Roy Hodgson as the new head coach of the England team. While their are many mixed emotions in regards to this decision, what has led the FA to go with Hodgson over some of the other choices they may have had?

To be honest, I think the only beneficial thing that comes out of this for the English FA is the fact that Hodgson is English. I have never been a fan of an International team coach not being from that same country. An interesting fact that not many people may know is that if we go all the way back to 1970, no team has won an international competition without a coach from that country.

Manchester United and Manchester City both experienced defeat in the UEFA Europa League in midweek. The two EPL title contenders are now poised to bounce back with victory on Sunday.

Manchester United and Manchester City are poised to win their respective English Premier League matches.Manchester United will remain at Old Trafford where they finished on the losing side of a 5-goal thriller against Athletic Bilbao. The Theatre of Dream is also where they encountered humiliating defeats to current league leaders Manchester City and to relegation fighters Blackburn Rovers earlier last year.

This will remind Alex Ferguson and his players to take West Bromwich Albion very seriously. After all, the Baggies are fresh from a 1-0 upset of Chelsea. They are plotting to embarrass yet another monster – not blue, but red this time.

When referee Michael Jones blew the whistle for the final time in the 94th minute, every Manchester United fan in the away end could breathe again. The Red Devils would be leaving the Hawthorns with 3 key points in the team’s pursuit of that 20th Barclays Premier League title.

The victory was perhaps overshadowed by injuries to defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Each player is reported to be out for at least two weeks, if not more. This could provide to be unfortunate as United has important games against Tottenham, Arsenal, Bolton, and Chelsea in the coming weeks.

Scotland vs Brazil: Naismith, Morrison, Pato And Nilmar Hit With Injuries

The Scotland vs Brazil friendly match is supposed to be one not to forget, but considering the numerous withdrawals that have popped up in both sides, doubts are casted on the game’s thrill.
Rangers’ midfielder Steven Naismith suffered damages on his groin and hamstring after playing in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final. He was then forced to pull out from the Scotland squad ahead of the Brazil friendly, but he was followed by some of his country-mates, who also had to withdraw themselves due to a decline in their physical conditions.

Sunderland’s Phil Bardsley, Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher and Celtic’s Scott Brown are all anticipated to miss the mouth-watering clash, while West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison is still fighting to make a special appearance.

Sacked Liverpool Coach Roy Hodgson Finds Life At West Bromwich Albion

Roy Hodgson’s coaching days have resumed. The ex-Fulham boss who endured a torrid time at Liverpool is now the manager of West Bromwich Albion. Roy Hodgson replaces Roberto di Matteo.
Di Matteo was thrown out of the bag earlier this week. Now a statement from West Brom confirmed the capture of Kenny Dalglish's predecessor at Anfield. It stated:

"We are delighted to announce that they have appointed Roy Hodgson as the club's new head coach."

According to reports, the 63-year-old man’s contract with West Brom is a short one. It bounds him to his new team for only one-and-a-half year. But Hodgson will not start with his new duties right away. This weekend, West Bromwich will still be guided by caretaker manager Michael Appleton.

West Bromwich Albion Sack Roberto Di Matteo

West Brom have sacked Roberto Di Matteo and placed him on gardening leave after a bad run that has seen them lose 13 of the last 18 matches in the Premier League.
First team coach Michael Appleton will take charge of all managerial duties as the club considers all the available options for a new manager. Some of the possible replacements are Roy Hodgson and Martin O'Neill.

Despite leading West Bromwich back into the Premier League, Chairman Jeremy Peace believes the sacking of Di Matteo was the right one indeed.

"This has been a tough decision but we, as a Board, believe it is the right one to give the Club the best possible chance of remaining in the Barclays Premier League,” said Peace to the club’s official website.

The transfer battle is over and Arsene Wenger has won it. Arsenal’s Carlos Vela, who was very likely to land in Valencia, remains in England as West Brom have signed him on a loan deal.
On Friday, West Bromwich Albion’s technical and sporting director Dan Ashworth explained how his club defeated Vela hunters Valencia and Chievo Verona after Bolton dropped out of the transfer race. Ashworth gladly told reporters as he commented on West Brom’s latest achievement on the transfer market.

“It has been well documented that Arsenal were keen on Carlos Vela staying in this country and in the Premier League.

“But I think that a key factor was that they looked favourably on our style of play and performances this season.

“I jarred my ankle or my knee. But it feels alright. I’ve always said that I’ll do my best to make sure I’m out there.
