Venezuela vs Bolivia Report

Wednesday November 16 2011,
Tags: Venezuela, Bolivia, 2014 World Cup Qualifying
Venezuela moved joint-top of the South American World Cup qualifiers after claiming a 1-0 victory over Bolivia in San Cristobal.
A first-half strike from Oswaldo Vizcarrondo was enough to give Venezuela a valuable 1-0 victory over Bolivia in a tight 2014 World Cup qualifier at the Pueblo Nuevo stadium in San Cristobal on Tuesday. With the win Venezuela reached seven points, the same amount of points as group leaders Uruguay. For Bolivia the defeat means they remain in bottom-place with only a single point.

Bolivia, who drew 1-1 with Argentina in Buenos Aires on Thursday, pushed to the attack immediately from the kick-off as they tried to catch Venezuela by surprise, with a long-range drive from Marcelo Martins Moreno.

Venezuela's first opportunity on goal came in the 5th minute, through Juan Arango and a few minutes later he had another chance that flashed wide. Both sides attacked each other in a frantic opening, with Moreno Martins looking particularly dangerous.

Venezuela vs Bolivia Preview

Venezuela will aim to continue their impressive winning streak against Bolivia when playing on home turf.
Venezuela are expected to grab all three points when they tussle with Bolivia in Round 4 of the South American 2014 World Cup qualifiers at the Pueblo Nuevo stadium in San Cristobal on Tuesday.

The Venezuelans, who obtained a valuable 1-1 draw with Colombia in Barranquilla on Friday, take on a Bolivia side that also picked up a 1-1 draw, however, against South American giants Argentina at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires.

Cesar Farias, the coach of Venezuela, is expected to make a couple of changes to confront the clash with Bolivia. According to reports he will provide Juan Guerra and Luis Manuel Seijas with starts. After the result with Colombia, Seijas declared that if Venezuela don't claim the three points against Bolivia, the point in Barranquilla "won't be worth anything."

Colombia vs Venezuela Report

Colombia were held to a frustrating draw by Venezuela in a match played under torrential rainfall.
Colombia could only afford a 1-1 draw with Venezuela in the third round of South American qualifying for Brazil 2014 at the Metropolitano stadium in Barranquilla on Friday.

Despite torrential rainfall, Colombia started strongly and went ahead in the 11th minute when after a fine interchange of passes, Freddy Guarin sent a long-range missile into the top right hand corner of Renny Vega's goal. Guarin dedicated the goal to Atletico Madrid striker Falcao, who missed the match due to injury.

Venezuela tried to react after conceding the goal, particularly through Cesar Gonzalez and Juan Arango, who both looked very lively. Colombia for that matter intended to double their advantage and would have done so had Vega not kept out goal-bound efforts from Jackson Martinez, Dorlan Pabon and Teofilo Gutierrez.

Despite the absence of Falcao, Colombia are expected to claim the three points when they clash with Venezuela in Barranquilla on Friday.
Colombia will be after their second consecutive victory of the 2014 South American World Cup qualifiers when they take on Venezuela at the Metropolitano stadium in Barranquilla on Friday. Colombia come into the match after picking up a valuable 2-1 victory over Bolivia in La Paz in Round 2 of the qualifiers last month.

However, Atletico Madrid star, Radamel Falcao Garcia, who scored the late winner against Bolivia, will miss the match after sustaining a muscle injury in a recent training session, when everything indicated that he would start in Colombia's attack. Falcao will be replaced by Jackson Martinez, who plays for Jaguares de Chiapas of Mexico.

Valenciennes midfielder Carlos Sanchez was also in doubt for the match after suffering a knock to his knee, but since then he has recovered and could well start the game from the kick-off.

Venezuela vs Argentina Report

Argentina were brought back to reality after suffering their first ever defeat to Venezuela.
South American heavyweights Argentina suffered a painful 1-0 defeat to Venezuela in the second round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in Puerto La Cruz on Tuesday. Los Albicelestes returned to their old ways, not playing even close to the way they did against Chile four days ago, when they won 4-1.

For Venezuela, it was a historic achievement because it was the first time that they had beaten Argentina in an official match, with the Argentines having won all eighteen encounters between the sides up until now.

The only goal of the match was scored by Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta in the 62nd minute. Venezuela, who are the only country from South America to have never qualified for a World Cup, were well worth their win.

First half goals from Jaime Ayovi and Christian Benitez gave Ecuador a winning debut against Venezuela.
Ecuador kicked off their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign with a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Venezuela at the Atahualpa stadium in Quito. The Ecuadorians proved much too strong for a young Venezuela side that clearly felt the effects of playing 2,850 metres above sea level.

Jaime Ayovi and Christian Benitez scored first half goals to give Ecuador three points on their highly anticipated debut. Reinaldo Rueda's side put on an exciting attacking display for the 44,000 fans that filled the stadium to its capacity.

Venezuela travel to the altitude of Quito for their opening 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on Friday.
For years Venezuela have been considered South America's weakest national team, however, the level of their soccer has improved significantly over the last decade, and they will be hoping to start off on the right note when they travel to Ecuador to face the hosts in their opening 2014 World Cup qualifier on Friday.

Venezuela know that playing 2,850 metres above sea level is quite a challenge, and in order to acclimatise themselves to the difficult conditions they decided to arrive in Ecuador five days before the match. The road to Brazil is no straightforward task, and this is the reason why the Venezuelans have planned things very carefully this time around.

Guerrero’s hat-trick gives Peru bronze with 4-1 triumph over Venezuela

Saturday July 23 2011,

Peru have left Venezuela empty-handed as a Guerrero hat-trick punished La Vinotinto in Saturday’s 2011 Copa America third-place final.
Chiroque opened the score line 3 minutes before half-time to give Peru the lead. Paolo Guerrero doubled his team’s advantage with a goal as well. But when Arango found the net for Venezuela in the 78th minute of the match, it seemed like the game was far from being settled.

However, Paolo Guerrero had other ideas. The Peruvian striker scored two more goals in quick succession during the very last moments of the match to break the hearts of the Venezuelans.

With this hat-trick, Paolo Guerrero looks favorite to win the 2011 Copa America’s top scorer award. Following Peru’s feat, the striker told ESPN:

Peru vs Venezuela Preview

Thursday July 21 2011,
The 2011 Copa America’s third place final will be contested by Venezuela and Peru.
Peru and Venezuela both suffered disappointment in the semi-finals of the 2011 Copa America but they now have a genuine chance of finding consolation through the third-place final battle. The moment has come for Peru and Venezuela to rectify what they got wrong against eventual finalists Uruguay and Paraguay respectively.

But the logic of the word ‘competition’ explains that one team—between Peru and Venezuela—will stumble to misery again while the other will be offered bronze medals at the end of proceedings. It could be hard to define a favorite ahead of this weekend’s third-place final match.

2011 Copa America: Venezuela And The Element Of Surprise

Wednesday July 20 2011,

Both Paraguay and Venezuela advanced to the semi-finals by defeating a major candidate in quarters. Uruguay waits for the winner in Buenos Aires
Celestes look forward to consolidate their excellent moment next Sunday at the Monumental. They don't wait for a top candidate as Chile or Brazil in the final, but Paraguay and Venezuela have showed strong credentials to stop Uruguay from lifting their 15th title.

Paraguayans have the opportunity to redeem themselves from their last Copa America final, back in 1979. This is Venezuela's best performance in the competition, but team's coach Cesar Farias believes they can make it even further this time.

Last week we witnessed an intense clash between these two fierce rivals, in which Venezuela came back from a 3-1 partial defeat, but I believe both teams have grown more confident in the course of the last week. Aerial play is likely to be decisive once again, just like it will be next Sunday in Buenos Aires against Uruguay.

Even Venezuela's own goalkeeper must have been surprised by his contribution to Venezuela's winning goal last week over Chile. Renny Vega is one of the main referents in the team, providing the same security Diego Muslera gives to the Uruguayans between the posts.

Paraguay vs Venezuela Preview

Monday July 18 2011,
This semi-final fixture could have featured Brazil and Chile…
Paraguay have a great chance of reaching the final of the 2011 Copa America. They have a good attacking line and that’s not all. Justo Villar has proven to be a closed gate in post for Paraguay.

His MOTM performance against Brazil emphasized Brazil’s humiliating exit. So will Villar bring minnows Venezuela back to earth?

Well, Venezuela have already made history by reaching the semi-finals of the Copa America for the first time as history can prove it. Who genuinely thought about La Vinotinto as prospective finalists in Argentina this year?

2011 Copa America: Peru and Uruguay Set The Example, Can Paraguay and Venezuela Follow It?

Brazil and Chile must secure the game in 90 minutes to avoid an awkward surprise this Sunday.
A smart, tactical football gave Peru and Uruguay the opportunity to outwit the alleged candidates and advance to the semi-finals. Despite showing some of their best football, Argentina and Colombia are out.

What's the logic behind these two unexpected results, and most importantly, what can Brazil and Chile learn from them? Argentina fell at Colon's "Elephant's Graveyard", a legendary stadium in which endless major teams have fell throughout history.

Brazil prepares for a tough clash against Paraguay. From a tactical point of view, I believe this game may resemble Argentina's, with the Scratch dominating the game while Paraguay try to take advantage of their aerial superiority.

Chile's coach Claudio Borghi misses playmaker Matias Fernandez, whose form was vital for La Roja to qualify as Group C leader. Do Chile have what it takes to defeat Venezuela, a goal neither Brazil nor Paraguay managed to achieve during the first stage?

Chile vs Venezuela Preview

Saturday July 16 2011,
Chile will go head to head with Venezuela on Sunday in San Jose.
It could be hard to predict the outcome of this match since Venezuela have proven to be stubborn minnows. Their goalless draw against Brazil was certainly no fluke. And if the Venezuelans can defend, they can also score.

It’s incredible how Fedor and Perozo got 2 late goals against Paraguay on match-day 3 to help their side remain unbeaten. Chile could eventually be the first to defeat La Vinotinto in the Copa America. Remember that the Chileans qualified into the quarter-finals as winners of their group.

Paraguay vs Venezuela Preview

Monday July 11 2011,
How many people genuinely bet, before the start of the 2011 Copa America, that La Vinotinto would be confirmed quarter-finalists ahead of the Paraguay vs Venezuela match?
It’s incredible but true. The Venezuelans could be seen as favorites to win—perhaps not on paper, but overall as coach Cesar Farias explained ahead of match-day 3. AFP quoted the boss as saying:

“We have no suspended or injured players. We are adding positive things that allow us to keep on dreaming, and that means that we are doing something well, but we are not qualified.

“We have to be very focused with this good chance. In the first game the team had hold the result, the second we were more released, and the in third one will have to play with the result and with the pressure, which is less than Paraguay's.”

2011 Copa America: Colombia, Chile, Venezuela and Peru Reach The Quarter-Finals

Colombia advance to the knockouts topping their group, and set a four-point requirement for the next stage
Colombia reaches the second stage with seven points, and leaves Argentina and Costa Rica struggling to secure the last remaining place for the quarter-finals. The winner takes all this Monday in Cordoba.

Who could have expected Venezuela as Group B leader? Even if Brazil and Paraguay end up as leaders with five points, the Venezuelan squad has enough points to secure qualification.

Remember that not only the teams finishing first and second in each group advance to the quarter-finals, but also the two best-placed thirds. Anything but a victory leaves Argentina as the worst-placed third, with three points.

Considering Costa Rica lost their opening game, another defeat leaves them with three points. Four points gives automatic qualification at this point, a requirement none of the three alleged candidates (Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay) have met so far.

Venezuela vs Ecuador Preview

Thursday July 7 2011,
Suddenly, it looks as if there are no favorites in Group B despite the inclusion of Brazil and Paraguay.
Still boasting about their 0-0 draw against Brazil, Venezuela are eying another positive result against Ecuador. And who’s your money on?

Note that the Ecuadorians are praying for some good news over the injury case of star Antonio Valencia. The Manchester United winger had to miss training on Monday as coach Reinaldo Rueda told The Associated Press:

“For now, we cannot count on him. We'll get more information later. We hope to have him, but we have to wait to see how serious it is.”

Meanwhile, Venezuela are planning to win at last as Cesar Farias told Canal 7 last weekend:

2011 Copa America: Paraguay, Venezuela and Ecuador, Fined By CONMEBOL

Tuesday July 5 2011,

Group B contenders must pay 5000 dollars and lose two Fair Play qualification points for their delay in the opening game
Based on Raul Orozco's and Sergio Pezzotta's report, CONMEBOL's Disciplinary Comittee warned three members of Group B for "delaying the start of the second half". warning that "more drastic sanctions could be taken" if the teams showed up late in the next game.

But if CONMEBOL is determined to hold all Copa Libertadores games in due time and proper course, why didn't they fine Neymar and Venezuela's coach Cesar Farias as they came to blows at the end of the first half?

I'm not saying CONMEBOL should support such behavior, but I believe a warning would have been more fitting.

2011 Copa America: Who Will Be The First American Squad To Take Off?

Monday July 4 2011,
Tags: Brazil, Venezuela
Is there a reason behind the poor form of South American powerhouses?
The assumption that South American football has "evened up" during the last years -as Sergio Aguero and Colombia's coach Hernan Gomez declared during the last days- may be just too premature with only 360 minutes of Copa America action.

The defensive approach of the so-called "weaker" national football teams in these first games could not have caught experienced coaches, such as Sergio Batista and Mano Menezes, by surprise.

But knowledge does not always equal power, and both candidates struggled endlessly to dominate the game. Argentina and Brazil had excellent distributions of the ball, but lacked the finishing, while the underdogs grew in confidence as the minutes went by.

Venezuela were harmless, but Bolivia was effective on the counter-attack and might eventually become a serious contender. Paraguay and Ecuador, electric but unstable.

Group C features Uruguay, Peru, Chile and Mexico. Can Peru follow the example set by Bolivia and Venezuela?
