Roque Santa Cruz unfazed about Paraguay’s “ugly football” ahead of Uruguay final

Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz has defended his side’s style of play ahead of Sunday’s anticipated 2011 Copa America final against Uruguay.
“It would not hurt me if we draw against Uruguay and then Paraguay win the match on penalties. Winning the Copa America is the goal, the rest does not matter,” Santa Cruz told reporters at a press conference.

Paraguay have not won a single game so far but their progress all the way to the final has widely been influenced by the mistakes of their opponents. The Paraguayans drew goalless against Ecuador and Brazil in the group stages while Venezuela’s late comeback on match-day 3 resulted in a 3-3 draw.

Football Transfer News: Roque Santa Cruz Back At Blackburn

Roque Santa Cruz has completed his transfer from Manchester City to Blackburn Rovers. The Paraguayan striker is back at Ewood Park on a loan deal after a miserable period at Man City.
Roque Santa Cruz has become Blackburn’s first signing of the month. The 29-year-old could renew his football at the club as early as on Sunday when his side will play away to Chelsea.

Roque Santa Cruz was a fan favourite during his 2-year spell at Ewood Park, enjoying 70 appearances and scoring 29 goals in the process. The Paraguayan then followed ex-Blackburn Rovers boss Marc Hughes at Manchester City in 2009.

However, his move soon turned out to be a nightmare as he made it only 6 times in Man City’s starting XI in the English Premier League; lack of match fitness, injuries and strong competition among the club’s forwards were simply too hard for Roque Santa Cruz to overcome.

Manchester City Transfer News: Time To Offload Flops – Mancini

Time is up for Manchester City flops Adebayor, Santa Cruz and Shaun Wright-Phillips. Coach Roberto Mancini is almost done getting rid of these 3 players during this transfer period.
It is understood that these 3 players are close to quitting Manchester City for another club – each of them going their own way. Transfer news from English magazine The Sun suggests that Roque Santa Cruz is set to go back on loan to Blackburn Rovers as early as during the course of this week.

Another Manchester City flop, Shaun Wright-Phillips, is also expected to leave Eastlands where money pours down like rain from the skies. It’s been reported that Birmingham City, Liverpool and Fulham are all interested in the talented winger.

Emmanuel Adebayor, however, has been linked with a loan move to Real Madrid. These speculations are yet to turn into confirmed reports, though.

Current Manchester City player Roque Santa Cruz didn’t manage to make the best of impressions during his first year with the Sky Blues. The Paraguayan now looks set to leave Manchester City and join London club Fulham where he will eventually reunite with his former boss at Blackburn Rovers, Marc Hughes.

Marc Hughes and Roque Santa Cruz - Manchester City PresentationBig spenders City have got busy on the transfer market this summer only to threaten the condition of some players in terms of regular football. For Roque Santa Cruz, it is not clear how he will fit in the Sky Blues’ 25-man squad that will compete in the English Premier League which kicks off this weekend.

Having experienced only 19 appearances in a Manchester City shirt, scoring only 3 goals in the process, the 28-year-old Paraguayan doesn’t have much chance to win a regular spot to partner Carlos Tevez upfront.

Besides, the completion of the transfer of striker Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan looks imminent and thus rings the alert higher for Roque Santa Cruz to quit the City of Manchester Stadium.
