Preview: Roma-Sassuolo square off for the first time ever
Roma will be hoping to bounce back from their draw last time out against a team they have never faced before. Eusebio Di Francesco’s Sassuolo earned promotion to the top tier of Italian football by finishing top of the Serie B table last season, however their premier journey in the Serie A has been one to forget.
The Neroverdi side has conceded 27 goals in just 11 games and could be in for a battering from a Roma side which will be hoping to extend their lead at the top. Whereas their fragile defence is easily the worst in the league, the side has displayed some good attacking game which will give them some confidence ahead of the big match against Roma.
Preview: Record breaking Roma poised to continue their perfect start
Marco Borriello’s winner against Chievo in their last outing resulted in Rudi Garcia’s men entering the record books after being the first club in Italy’s top flight football to have won all of their opening ten games. Their French tactician has lauded his players and has labelled them as magicians for their fine display this season.
"People are saying there are magicians that help us win? I have all the magicians right here, from the goalkeeper to the captain," the Frenchman said at a press conference.
Preview: Roma to make it 10 out of 10 with a win over Chievo
Rudi Garcia’s men are poised to continue their hot streak in the league when they face Chievo, a side which is currently rock bottom in the league table. La Maggica extended their win streak to nine matches when they defeated Udinese 1-0 despite being a man down after defender Maicon was shown his marching orders at the hour mark. However Michael Bradley’s late strike guaranteed Roma of maximum points from the game.
Despite of a terrific run which has seen Roma defy all odds, manager Rudi Garcia has decided to keep his feet on the ground and has claimed that only a trophy at the end of the season will call for celebrations.
Preview: Napoli looking to ruin Roma’s perfect start
If there is one side which can be deemed to outclass Rudi Garcia’s high flying Roma side, it is the team from Naples led by Rafa Benitez. Like Roma, Napoli have been unbeaten in Serie A so far but unlike their counterparts Partenopei have dropped points this season owing to their draw against newly promoted side Sassuolo.
But Roma are now set to face arguably their biggest challenge of the season coming against a side which has done ever so well in the recent past. Napoli have come in leaps and bounds over the years and have earned European spots in each of the last four seasons.
Roma have enjoyed a recent renaissance under new coach Rudi Garcia. The Giallorossi are currently in seventh heaven after a dream start to the season: undefeated in seven consecutive games and currently sit at the top of the league table on 21 points.
Napoli, meanwhile, have also had a fantastic start to the season, also under a new coach, former Chelsea and Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez. The Spaniard’s last term in Serie A ended on a sour note when he was dismissed by Inter’s management midway through the season, but he now appears to be enjoying his second time on the peninsula, having guided the Partenopei to an undefeated start so far as well.
Whilst Lamela broke Spurs transfer record for the third time in the summer the jury out with the 21-year-old. This is not because he is a bad signing. Nicknamed ‘Coco’ by his friends, he has a respectable record in Argentina and Italy with twenty-three goals in ninety-eight appearances from his days at River Plate and Roma.
The bemusement is with his new club, flashing almost £30m on a player who fails to strike regular starts in the first XI. The international has been subject to guest appearances within the last ten-fifteen minutes of games in the league whilst notably featuring behind Jermain Defoe in Tottenham's cup competitions.
Preview: Roma looking to maintain winning streak at the expense of Inter
The arrival of Rudi Garcia has revived La Maggica who have won six out of six in the league so far maintaining a 100 percent win record. The departures of key players including Erik Lamela, Marquinhos and Pablo Osvaldo has not affected Garcia’s side who have invested the money wisely on new players.
Adem Ljajic and Gervinho who were signed from Fiorentina and Arsenal respectively have scored three goals apiece so far. Roma’s other high profile capture Kevin Strootman has also seamlessly adjusted into his new side and has notched up three assists in the league so far.
Preview: More routine red cards as Roma aim to humble their rivals?
It is all well with the Giallorossi so far. They have picked up maximum points since the start of the league in August. Their three-out-of-three run started in Livorno thanks to goals from De Rossi and Florenzi.
On Matchday 2, Roma trampled over newcomers Hellas Verona, showing Matchday 1 victims Milan how it must be done to tackle the tricky Gialloblu. 3-0 was the score line as Miralem Pjanic and Adem Ljajic became the third and fourth different goalscorers respectively for Roma in the Serie A. The first strike in this victory was an own-goal by Cacciatore.
Preview: Rudi Garcia ambitious ahead of the 2013/14 Italian Serie A campaign
The game would be the 18th MLS All-Stars game and this time around, the best in MLS will take on Giallorossi. Sporting Park in Kansas City, home of Kansas City Wizards is the location for a match that promises a lot of goals.Rudi Garcia’s men would be the first Serie A side to take on All-Stars with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton playing the All-Star games in recent years. So far, Roma have played just one preseason game which was a 2-1 win over Greek side Aris last Friday.
The Roman adventure has begun for Rudi Garcia. The former Lille manager has taken the reins of the capital club and would be hoping that he does not suffer the same fate as his predecessors who in the last few seasons, have seen their reputations tarnished, thanks to the gigantic challenges coaching a club like Roma presents.
However, if he manages to sort out a few issues and makes sure he does a few things right, there is no question that he would not do well in the managerial hot-seat.
Putting a smile on Daniele De Rossi’s face
If there is one player who has been in the eye of the storm for a long time, it has to be Daniele De Rossi. The midfielder has been feeling disenchanted by his club.
Bezsonov won this award for USSR; the Soviet Union were crowned champions that year. He went on to live up to his billing, winning the Ukrainian player of the year award three times. 1) Lionel Messi has played approximately 790 minutes of normal time against Italian teams in his career so far, whereas Ronaldo has played a bit more than 1020 minutes up to now.
2) Messi and Ronaldo both faced Italian teams for the first time in the Champions League in 2005. Although he did not score a goal or made an assist, the then-Barcelona starlet enjoyed a 4-1 win over Udinese; while the Manchester United performer underwent a 1-0 loss against Milan, with only 1 shot in the game. Both players were substituted in their respective games minutes after the hour mark.
3) Messi’s first goal against an Italian team came in his sixth meeting, when he entered the scoring sheet against AC Milan on 23 November 2011. More impressively though, Ronaldo’s first goal against an Italian team came in his fourth meeting—against AS Roma on 10 April 2007. The Portuguese star scored a double in that game, as Manchester United won 7-1.
