The good news for Manchester United last weekend is that they became the only Big 4 team to win 3 points on Match-day 1 of the EPL. The bad news is that they’ve been rocked with injury woes.

Brazilian defender Rafael da Silva has been ruled out of action for no less than 10 weeks with a dislocated shoulder. This piece of info means that the youngster will have to wait until October to make his 74th appearance for Manchester United in all competitions since joining the club in 2008.
Rio Ferdinand and skipper Nemanja Vidic have also been added to Man United’s growing injury list. Speaking to the club’s official website, a worried but confident Alex Ferguson gave details by stating:
“Rio has hurt his hamstring and will be out for six weeks. With Vida, we don't know whether it's a nerve problem with his calf or not. He'll have that checked tomorrow [Monday].
The England vs Netherlands international friendly will not take place due to London’s critical and on-going rioting, it has been announced.

According to reports from the English media, the English FA concluded on this decision after talks with the police. London is already struggling to manage the looting and burnings with police men, so it will presumably be difficult for more police men to take charge of Wednesday’s England vs Netherlands match at Wembley. A statement from the FA read:
“It is with regret that tomorrow’s [Wednesday 10 August] international fixture with Holland at Wembley has been called off.”
England’s players are visibly distracted by the terrible scenes in London. Rio Ferdinand wrote via Twitter:
John Terry believes that nothing regarding the captaincy issue is still within him and Ferdinand ahead of England's match against Switzerland

John Terry was reinstated as captain prior to England's qualifying match against Wales two months ago due to Ferdinand's constant absence in the national team because of injuries. That decision came under fire from many sources but Terry is confident that there is no grudges between him and Ferdinand as they prepare to face the Swiss tomorrow.
Terry said: ''Things are not uncomfortable between us, not at all. Rio has got an awful lot to give in the dressing room anyway which he naturally will, like the (other) older players in the squad.

Predicting a team's line-up may be easy at times but when they go against Barcelona, the whole mentality of team selection is brought to a new dimension. Live Soccer TV previews.
Cristiano Ronaldo was always regarded as a winger during his time at Old Trafford. Not to say that he can't fit into the centre forward position but his best years at United saw him freely roaming and switching flanks as a genuine out and out winger. But it was that semi final triumph against Arsenal that persuaded Sir Alex after all. Ronaldo was employed in the wings and it weaved magic as United swept off the Gunners to march into the final at Rome. But boy did all go wrong at the Stadio Olimpico.
Basically, teams have always altered their formation while going against the mighty Catalans. 'Defensive' or maybe 'Negative Tactics' were probably the cliche's during build up to a game against Barcelona. Real Madrid certainly stopped the Catalans at the Mestalla not so long ago. But considering what happened when they clashed at the Nou Camp- with the situation not allowing Jose Mourinho's men to set-up defensively is raising up doubts over whether a team should go defensive against Barcelona.
Wayne Rooney has been in scintillating form for Manchester United in the past few weeks and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can deal with him at Old Trafford tonight.

After having started the season in a chaotic way, Wayne Rooney looks to be at his level best again after exploding into life all of a sudden. The English striker has been bagging goals with ease recently and ahead of their clash with Chelsea tonight, one can only wonder what kind of destruction Rooney can cause at Old Trafford.
Chelsea themselves are already in a huge trouble having lost the first leg at home to Manchester United- a result that makes this second leg clash at Old Trafford something like a battle with a gladiator. It's either do or die for Carlo Ancelotti as he faces the toughest challenge yet in his reign at Stamford Bridge.
Rio Ferdinand has spoken of his frustration at defeats and he also insisted that United must bounce back strongly after losing their last two games.

Manchester United stayed unbeaten in the league for 24 games until they lost at Wolverhampton in February. However, things seem a lot different for the Devils now. 3 of their last 5 games have ended in defeats- something Ferdinand isn't happy about.
Ferdinand missed both the away defeats to Chelsea and Liverpool with an injury. But the defender believes that United will need to prove that they have what it takes to make a strong comeback.
“I was really pleased with how we bounced back from the defeat to Wolves and won against Manchester City,” he told Inside United.
Only hours are remaining now for the Liverpool vs Manchester United match, but Captain Steven Gerrard’s excitement might not be at its top level, as he has been ruled out following an injury.

Gerrard reportedly suffered a recurrence of a groin injury on Saturday, which dramatically lowered his chances of leading his side at Anfield against Manchester United today. His presence would have obviously served as a big advantage for Liverpool, who still have a lot to fight for in the Premier League table, despite their poor start to the season.
Gerrard scored a double against the Red Devils back in September 2010, in the Reds’ 3-2 defeat at the Old Trafford. Kenny Dalglish’s side can however not afford to lose another 3 points, and thus, a rapid but effective solution will need to be applied by the Liverpool boss immediately.
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has intensified the clash between Manchester United and Chelsea by stating that their spending spree during the January transfer window will not win them the title this season.

Chelsea spent a massive £75m on Fernando Torres and David Luiz in a bid to improve their performances and luck both on and off the field. However, Ferdinand who will not play any part in the clash at Stamford Bridge has stated that all their spending will not necessarily guarantee them the title for this season.
'I just love transfer deadline day. The Torres deal did make me think "Wow, they’ve really gone for it,"' Ferdinand told the club's official magazine Inside United.
'But will those transfers really improve Chelsea this season? I don’t know. Next season, I would say yeah, they will. But it’s hard to settle in quickly in January'
Sunday's much anticipated Chelsea vs Manchester United match has been called off due to weather conditions. The Blues confirmed this decision on Saturday.
“Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge has been postponed following consultation with the Metropolitan Police and the local authority,” a statement on Chelsea’s official website declared.
“Should fans require a refund, they can send the tickets back to the box office with credit details and they will be cancelled.
“Supporters are advised to send tickets back by Royal Mail special delivery in order for the tickets to arrive safely.
“Any tickets that do not arrive cannot be refunded. All tickets WILL remain valid for the new date once it is confirmed.”
The new date for the Chelsea vs Manchester United match has not yet been released. In the meantime though, its postponement has left Rio Ferdinand angry as English media The Sun quoted him as saying:
Tonight’s England vs France friendly will be unique based on the fact that it will mainly be contested by younger talents.

Injuries have sidelined the stars that fans wanted to see in that match, so England captain Rio Ferdinand has urged boys to become men. Players like Kieran Gibbs, Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson will be lined up in the Three Lions’ starting XI, Coach Fabio Capello confirmed earlier on.
Meanwhile, England will have to make do without several top players. For example, Joe Hart just pulled out with a back injury whereas Phil Jagielka is yet to be confirmed as fit.
Both Frank Lampard and John Terry have also long been ruled out since they need to spend time on the sidelines. Wayne Rooney isn't an exception on the injury front either.
