Upon looking at the goalscoring record of Benfica’s Paraguayan striker Oscar Cardozo, just the fact that he is considered something of an enigma is an enigma in itself.

When Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira splashed out just shy of 10 million euros for the beanpole marksman in the summer of 2007, he confidently announced “Benfica have bought a striker to guarantee twenty goals a season.”
Cardozo has proven as good as Vieira’s word, finding the net on a staggeringly consistent basis. He has scored 127 times in 204 matches in all competitions for Benfica.
So it follows that Cardozo is an idol of the Estádio da Luz, right? Wrong. Cardozo is far from the darling of the Benfica faithful, even attracting boos from sections of the crowd on a mystifyingly regular basis.

The wheels of fortune continued to turn in Bayern’s favour as Bayern recorded their largest away win of the season. Dortmund beat Bremen by a solitary goal.

Dortmund and Bayern has both played the majority of 2012 without their best players Mario Goetze and Bastian Schweinsteiger respectively. Dortmund played a weakened Bremen side and won courtesy of a player who has somewhat acted as a ‘messiah’ for them in Shinji Kagawa.
Kagawa’s poor form in the earlier part of the season led to rumours of a transfer away from the club. Kagawa has been rejuvenated this year and he has partly filled up a massive hole left by Goetze. The record unbeaten run in the Bundesliga is 24 matches, recorded by Bayer Leverkusen in the 2009-10 season. Dortmund is currently on a 20-match unbeaten streak.
Coverage begins with Montreal Impact’s MLS debut on March 10. Package includes 36 games featuring Canadian clubs including home openers of all three Canadian clubs. TSN and RDS are home of the MLS ALL-STAR GAME, the MLS CUP Playoffs and MLS CUP 2012.
Toronto, ON (February 23, 2012) – TSN and RDS kick off their second year as the official broadcasters of Major League Soccer (MLS) in Canada with a national broadcast package that includes 36 games featuring Montreal Impact, Toronto FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
In addition to producing and broadcasting 36 games featuring Canadian teams, TSN, TSN2, RDS and RDS2 will broadcast select MLS games featuring two U.S.-based teams; those games will be announced in the coming weeks. TSN and RDS platforms will also have exclusive coverage in Canada of the MLS CUP Playoffs, the MLS CUP 2012 and the MLS ALL-STAR GAME.
In Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, the EPL has 6 big teams. Here are 10 big questions, related to these teams, which you should be able to answer!
1) Who scored the first goal of the season?
How else to start but by recalling this moment which happened at Anfield? On Matchday 1 of the 2011/12 English Premier League, Liverpool hosted Sunderland. The Merseyside Reds were given the chance to take a seventh-minute lead through the penalty spot. This opportunity, however, went missing as striker Luis Suarez wasted it.
The Uruguayan later redeemed himself with a twelfth-minute strike which became the first goal of the 2011/12 English Premier League season. This will remind some people that Luis Suarez also makes the headlines for good reasons…
The Italian champions are the odds on favourites to secure the services of the explosive Argentine.

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez is likely to continue his career at AC Milan, after reports indicated that the controversial Argentine international rejected an offer to join Inter Milan in favour of their arch-rivals.
According to Calciomercato Tevez's agent "[Kia] Joorabchian said no to Marco Branca," the sporting director of Inter, who was in charge of negotiating the striker's possible transfer to the club.
It also stated that "Tevez had shown his desire to play for Milan, alongside [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic," the Swedish striker, who recently admitted that if Tevez were to join Milan he would help him "score lots of goals with the Rossoneri jersey."
Spurs’ exclusion from the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League apparently doesn't bother Luka Modric to the extent of wanting to quit for a bigger club.

The Croatian midfielder’s name was constantly mentioned in the headlines, especially last summer, as Chelsea looked favorites to land the player’s signature. All the same, Harry Redknapp won the transfer battle and Modric remained at White Hart Lane.
As the January transfer window is about to open, speculations surrounding the 26-year-old have emerged again. Rumors suggest that Modric might respond to Chelsea’s midfield problems by joining Andre Villas-Boas’ struggling Blues.
The player, however, has been quick to discard them. On Thursday, the English press reported Luka Modric as saying:
During the past few days especially, players, coaches and football followers have been sharing opinions ahead of Saturday night’s Real Madrid vs Barcelona fixture at the Bernabeu.
Sevilla and Valencia’s away games against Levante and Real Betis respectively will open La Liga’s weekend of action. However, it’s El Clasico that will put Matchday 15 on fire. Real Madrid vs Barcelona will kick-off at 22:00 CET, 21:00 GMT and 16:00 EST.
The match is sure to keep the public awake until the early hours of Sunday, at least. Two very different football philosophies will collide in the Spanish capital in a celebration of pure rivalry.
Barcelona have a great record in El Clasico and Pep Guardiola is yet to taste defeat against Los Blancos in La Liga. The Santiago Bernabeu is the ground where the Catalans recorded an emphatic 6-2 victory a couple of years ago. Barca faithful want the club to continue its dominance over Real Madrid.

You will find very few Liverpool fans predicting a Title challenge for their team. The reason is not the players on the field, it is merely the humility beaten into them by 21 years of waiting for an English Title.

In addition to the frustration of constant failure to win the league, Liverpool fans have also been forced to watch bitter rivals Manchester United break their record of 18 English Championships.
For a long time the fact that their club had won more league titles than any other is the only straw Liverpool fans had left to clutch, as they argued against the superiority of Arsenal, Chelsea and United.
It was also typical to hear Liverpool fans confidently exclaim in August that this was the year the drought would be broken, only to be disappointed before Easter rolled around.
Ironically, the lack of that optimism could be a big positive for this year’s squad. Pressure is elsewhere, with United expected to defend their title, Manchester City expected to compete after spending billions of dollars and Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is expected to bring immediate success.
Micah Richards remains pessimistic about Manchester City's chances of coping well at the top level should Carlos Tevez leave the club this summer.

Manchester City are apparently planning ahead of a life without top striker Carlos Tevez. Although Tevez’s wish of quitting Eastlands suffered a huge setback following Corinthians’ failure to finalize a deal, it is still speculated that Tevez won’t be a Manchester City player come the 2011/2012 season.
But one person who has come out with pessimistic thoughts is Micah Richards. The defender has tipped superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the only players that could replace Carlos Tevez at Manchester City.
Without Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli could get the entire stage to transform into Manchester City’s hero according to Micah Richards.

Mario Balotelli is widely portrayed as the bad kid in football. His hot tempered behavior on the pitch, his tendency to not celebrate goals and his offensive statements against other professionals in the sport have destroyed his young career.
Balotelli has been warned by Italy coach Cesare Prandelli and Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini at several occasions. For team mate Micah Richards, the upcoming season could mark the beginning of much better things to come from Balotelli if Carlos Tevez quits the City of Manchester Stadium.
Thanks to ESPN, the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany can be enjoyed by millions of viewers in the United States.

Records were set last weekend. Following the exit of top side Brazil, how well can World Cup favorites USA contribute in boosting ESPN’s audience at home with 2 match-days left?
Pia Sundhage’s team can be congratulated already for the growth of the women’s game among American viewers through ESPN. It has been reported by the Nielsen Company that 3.89 million people followed USA’s thrilling quarter-final victory over Brazil last Sunday.
This match eventually ranks as the 3rd most followed women’s football encounter in the USA. In terms of USA HH rating, the top 5 areas that marketed July 10’s Brazil vs USA match were the following:
The 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup is bringing a lot to the women’s game in terms of development as ESPN, BBC2 and ZDF could witness it.

For the first time in Germany, a Women’s World Cup match attracted as much as 16.95 million viewers with 59.3% of them following it on public-service channel ZDF. This record got created through the Germany-Japan quarter-final match that saw the host nation stunned by the Asians on a 1-0 score line after extra-time.
However, the development of Women’s Football still has some way to go on ESPN. The Brazil vs USA quarter-final fixture got a 2.6 overnight rating—the highest score for a women’s match since 1999 when USA and Brazil locked horned in a World Cup semi-final. That match had drawn a 3.2 rating.
Two consecutive draws have left Argentina at the verge of first-round elimination.

Fred saved Brazil against Paraguay, Sergio Aguero did the same for Argentina in the opening game, but none of the South American powerhouses have yet been able to celebrate their first Copa America victory.
Costa Rica, on the other hand, redeemed themselves after a disappointing debut by defeating Bolivia 2-0, thanks to Joel Campbell's superb form. He sets Costa Rica's pace and rhythm, and the Argentinian defenders should keep him under a close watch.
It's undeniable Sergio Batista must introduce several modifications in his scheme to make the best out of his squad.
I believe Sergio Aguero earned his place in the starting eleven and could give both the aggressiveness and playing style Batista looked for in Carlos Tevez and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Ricardo La Volpe is likely to adopt a defensive scheme for this third clash, relying on the counter-attack to harm Argentina when they're most vulnerable. Costa Rica's coach introduces Francisco Calvo in the starting eleven, an amateur defensive midfielder who will be in charge of stopping Messi from building the attack.
