Manchester United were seconds away from winning the English Premier League title when Manchester City issued a dramatic comeback.
At Sunderland, Man United did their homework by recording a 1-0 victory thanks to Rooney’s lone goal but at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City did the impossible. The Citizens netted 2 goals in injury time to turn around a 2-1 deficit against Queens Park Rangers.
The latter got reduced to ten men early in the second period as Joey Barton kicked Carlos Tevez with his elbow. With the numerical disadvantage, City became ultra-defensive.
However, the introduction of Armand Traore was the turning point in the game. Out of nowhere, Queens Park Rangers went 2-1 up inside the 66th minute.
Traore’s run down the left wing was vital in the build up to his team’s second goal. Djibril Cisse had previously equalized Zabaleta’s first-half opener.
The English Premier League have decided to retain the traditional ritual due to legal purposes.
Pre-match team handshakes will be suspended prior to Sunday's match between Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers at Stamford Bridge.
Terry, the captain of Chelsea, is accused of racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand during a Premier League game in October and due to this the EPL believed it was best to retain team handshakes.
"The Premier League position on the pre-match handshake convention remains consistent. In all normal circumstances it must be observed," the Premier League announced in an official statement.
The new Premiership season hasn’t even started but football fans are already making predictions and pondering over tough questions.
The 2011/2012 English Premier League season is not far away from kicking off, so it’s certainly a perfect time to look once more at the teams involved and at the things expected.
Like each year, 3 teams go down and 3 teams go up. Like each year, only a few teams get to qualify for Europe. And like each year again, only one team gets to be crowned as winners of England’s globally followed Premiership.
What the 2010/2011 season produced
Manchester United are the reigning champions—having collected a total of 80 points (9 more than Chelsea and Manchester City). Meanwhile, one of the big talking points at the end of last season was about Arsenal’s devastated conditions.
Ray Stubbs, Darrell Currie as well as commentators Derek Rae and Craig Burley will team up to deliver ESPN’s live coverage of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Before the month of October, Scottish powerhouses Celtic and Rangers will feature as much as 7 times on ESPN. But 5 matches involving Rangers will come up before November; those will be away fixtures to Motherwell on August 20, Dundee United on September 10, Hearts on October 22 and Aberdeen on October 29.
In addition, Kilmarnock vs Celtic is set to come live on ESPN on October 15. Meanwhile, the Hibernian vs Celtic match in Edinburgh will open the Clydesdale Bank Premier League on Sunday, July 24 and ESPN will be there to broadcast it live.
A late penalty save by goalkeeper Allan McGregor earned Rangers a 0-0 draw with Celtic in a tense Old Firm derby at Ibrox Stadium.

The result means Rangers remain on top of the Scottish Premier League table one place ahead of second placed Celtic. The Hoops have played one game less than Rangers and will win the SPL title if they win their remaining five games.
The buildup to the game included allegations of a letter bomb being sent to Celtic manager Neil Lennon, and the atmosphere in the stands was sufficiently hostile in a frenetic opening period.
Rangers pushed forward early and Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster was forced to deal with two dangerous crosses in the opening minutes. American midfielder Maurice Edu also had an early attempt on goal but it was deflected wide off Charlie Mulgrew.
Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic will go head to head at Ibrox Stadium on Easter Sunday.

The game will have huge implications in the Scottish Premier League title race. Rangers currently sit on top of the league, but Celtic have played a game less and are only one point behind in second place.
Rather than being a pleasant Easter celebration, this game will be played in front of a hostile crowd fueled by the events of recent weeks. Accusations have been made of a letter bomb being sent to Celtic manager Neil Lennon, while BBC News reported that two fans were arrested in Glasgow recently for “sectarian and hate filled” internet posts.
Both teams will be carrying a five game winning streak into this fixture, and the winner will strike a huge blow ahead of the title run-in.

The Scotland vs Brazil friendly match is supposed to be one not to forget, but considering the numerous withdrawals that have popped up in both sides, doubts are casted on the game’s thrill.

Rangers’ midfielder Steven Naismith suffered damages on his groin and hamstring after playing in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final. He was then forced to pull out from the Scotland squad ahead of the Brazil friendly, but he was followed by some of his country-mates, who also had to withdraw themselves due to a decline in their physical conditions.
Sunderland’s Phil Bardsley, Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher and Celtic’s Scott Brown are all anticipated to miss the mouth-watering clash, while West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison is still fighting to make a special appearance.
Rangers defeated arch-rivals Celtic in the CIS Cup Final courtesy of an extra-time winner from Nikica Jelavic.

Steven Davis opened the scoring for Rangers with a strike from outside the area, before Joe Ledley produced a first half equalizer for Celtic.
Old Firm games this season have not been short of controversy, and the first potential flashpoint came 15 minutes into this Cup Final. Celtic midfielder Mark Wilson drove into the box and went to ground under pressure from Sasa Papac and Davis, no penalty was awarded.
Celtic continued their good start and almost went in front in the 21st minute when Kris Commons swung over a cross and Scott Brown headed wide of the post.
Celtic were made to pay for Brown’s miss three minutes later when Rangers took the lead. Charlie Mulgrew’s defensive header only went as far as Davis, and the Northern Ireland international dribbled forward before firing a long range drive in off the goal post.
Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic will clash in the Scottish Co-Operative Insurance Cup Final on Sunday at Hampden Park.

This game will produce the third consecutive Old Firm winner of the CIS Cup. Rangers are the current holders after defeating St. Mirren 1-0 in last season’s final, while Celtic beat Rangers 2-0 after extra-time to capture this trophy in 2009.
Scott Brown and Mark Wilson will both return from suspension for Celtic, while defender Daniel Majstorovic will miss out with a broken toe. Andreas Hinkel and Shaun Maloney are long-term absentees for the Hoops.
Kyle Lafferty and Vladimir Weiss are injury doubts for Rangers, while Richard Foster is cup-tied. Kyle Bartley and Jamie Ness are sidelined with injury for the ‘Gers, while Kirk Broadfoot and Lee McCulloch are long-term absentees.
After being held to a scoreless draw with Rangers in Eindhoven last week, PSV manager Fred Rutten insisted that his side must be able to show their winning mentality away from home tonight

The reigning Dutch champions battled a stalemate with Rangers last week and although there is still all to play for, Fred Rutten insisted that his side must be able to show their winning mentality and win the match as they seek to progress into the Europa League quarter finals.
He told the club's official website: "We’ve challenged the players to show they’ve made progress this season. We’ve already reached the round of 16. We failed to score a goal in Eindhoven last week and with that we could have made it a bit easier in the return game.
"However, we still have a decent chance to go through to the quarter-finals, following the 0-0 draw. We must show that winning mentality in order to progress to the final eight of the Europa League."

As the UEFA Europa League resumes today, Live Soccer TV shares with you again a piece that was written back in late February.
You cannot look back at the UEFA Europa League’s Round of 32 matches without talking about drama, just as you cannot look forward to the Round of 16 ties without feeling the excitement. Today, following the Europa League’s Last 16 draw, Live Soccer TV takes you through an analysis of the competition’s previous stage and its upcoming round.
We look at some of the Round of 32’s best results in terms of big margin-victories and thrilling comebacks. In addition, we also analyze the Round of 16 draw from a general point of view: who the favourites are in terms of clubs and countries among a few other points.
The UEFA Europa League: The Round Of 16’s Best Comebacks
Manchester City, Zenit, Rangers and Villarreal all rank among this range. Both Man City and Villarreal were in a delicate situation as they had failed to grab at least one vital away goal in their respective Europa League knock-out match. But it turned out to be that their dream came to life through what makes the greatest difference in a game: goals.
Celtic earned a spot in the Scottish Cup Quarter-Finals with a 1-0 win in a hot tempered clash with Old Firm rivals Rangers.

Mark Wilson netted the decisive goal for Celtic, while Rangers had three players sent off as tempers frayed at Celtic Park.
Celtic had the better of possession in the early stages, but it was Rangers who carved out the games first clear cut chance. Defender Steven Whittaker released El Hadji Diouf with a through ball, and the Senegal striker rounded Lukasz Zaluska before floating over a cross. Defender Daniel Majstorovic got back and headed clear to end the threat.
The home team began to settle into the game and Ki Sung-Yeung fired over the bar as the pressure on Rangers built. The game then took a turn on Celtic’s favor, Rangers defender Whittaker was booked for a foul on Ki, and dismissed less than 10 minutes later when a clumsy tackle on Emilio Izaguirre earned him a second yellow card.
Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers will clash in the Scottish Cup last 16 on Wednesday.

This Scottish Cup Fifth Round Replay was set up when these teams battled to a 2-2 draw at Ibrox Stadium three weeks ago. Celtic have achieved a 3-0 SPL victory over Rangers since then, while Rangers have reached the UEFA Europa League last 16 by advancing past Sporting Lisbon.
Celtic were beaten 2-0 in the SPL at Motherwell over the weekend, and boss Neil Lennon is looking for his team to bounce back quickly against their bitter rivals.
“I’m looking for a reaction – a positive one,” Lennon told BBC Sport. “I want to see that intensity to their play, which wasn’t really evident on Sunday.”
Lennon will be unable to call upon goalkeeper Fraser Forster and midfielder Joe Ledley, who are both unavailable due to suspension. Beram Kayal will return from a ban for Celtic, while Mark Wilson is hoping to shake off an injury in time to play.
Rangers defender David Weir has little chance of participating in the important clash against Sporting Lisbon after reportedly falling ill on the eve of the Europa League match,

The Scottish club takes on Sporting Lisbon in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 32 and they are set to be without their inspirational captain David Weir for the match.
The Rangers skipper reportedly complained of stomach problem just hours after landing in Portugal and looks set to miss the tie.
His absence would be a major blow for Walter Smith's side as Sporting are already well-positioned in this tie, having gained an away goal during the first leg tie in Scotland which ended 1-1.
The battle of Glasgow will take place on Sunday as Rangers travel to Celtic in a game with huge SPL title implications.

Celtic currently hold a five point lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League, but have played two more games than Rangers. Celtic will enter this game riding a 16 game unbeaten streak, while Rangers are unbeaten in their last six fixtures.
A lot of attention during this game will be centered on Rangers striker El Hadji Diouf and Celtic captain Scott Brown. Brown equalized in the recent 2-2 Scottish Cup draw between Rangers and Celtic, and immediately turned to celebrate in the face of Diouf.
Given the fact that Diouf has history that includes spitting on a Celtic fan, he can expect a rough ride from the Celtic Park faithful on Sunday.
As another Old Firm Derby approaches, there is one thing that will dominate the build up ahead of the clash at Parkhead - The Brown Vs Diouf duel.
With another Old Firm Derby on the cards, everybody is looking forward to see Diouf and Brown engage in another battle with hopes of it being in footballing terms.
Two weeks ago, both players were involved in a spat after Brown celebrated a goal right in front of Diouf which prompted the referee to book Brown for his actions.
While nobody on Earth was surprised that Diouf had made a new enemy, everybody was puzzled as Diouf showed incredible calmness and composure to ignore and stay away from prompting any further ugly scenes.
But while that incident was a small black spot in the whole game, Diouf irked the Celtic players with some good touches and plays throughout the matches. Diouf even left Brown chasing his shadows some of the times with some good jinks and touches.
Rangers defender David Weir has rejected rejected speculation that Rangers would be happy to crach out of the Europa League to avoid a major fixture pile-up

Rangers will take on Sporting Lisbon tomorrow and the 40 year old David Weir knows that a victory could put them on the right track for an additional two games as the season approaches its crucial stage.
This situation has sparked fears among many Rangers supporters who do not want their club to lose out on the league just because of fixture congestion due to the European matches.
In 2008, Rangers marched onto the UEFA Cup final but they lost their near total domination on the league in the last few matches due to fatigue. This is one thing Rangers fans will never want to see again and some of them a prepared to accept defeat for Rangers in Europe.
Not long after Pedro Mendes showed great confidence ahead of the Rangers vs Sporting Lisbon match, Portuguese striker Helder Postiga has warned his side against any form of sloppiness in defence.

Conceding and losing chances have been two major problems in the Sporting Lisbon club lately, and their weekend match against Olhanense was the perfect confirmation of their poor shape this season. Postiga, nevertheless, felt he made a good contribution in his side’s last encounter, but regrets the loss of the 2 goal lead he notched—which eventually faded out as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Postiga is aware that an improvement will not reshape his club, unless remarkable efforts are made. He also expressed his worries over Sporting’s form prior to their next Europa League test, and declared that a weak backline would throw them into a terrible nightmare.
Despite Sporting Lisbon’s poor result in their last match, midfielder Pedro Mendes has insisted that his side is ready to face Rangers in the UEFA Europa League.

Sporting Lisbon were actually leading 2-0 over lowly side Olhanense at the weekend in the Liga Sagres, but they suddenly allowed their opponents to come back into the game to settle for a draw in the most miserable manner. Rangers however enjoyed a great Saturday thanks to a 6-0 win against Motherwell at home.
Perhaps, there is no doubt that the Scottish giants are currently in much better form than the Portuguese strugglers. Yet, despite everything, Pedro Mendes has yet to overestimate his adversaries in the Europa League.
"Every season, there will be a Rangers game which finishes 5-0, 6-0 or 7-0... So I am not worried about that,” the former Porto player said. “It was just the same when I was there.
Celtic struck a blow in the Scottish Premier League title race with a 2-0 win at Rangers.

Two goals from Greek forward Georgios Samaras gave Celtic the three points, and means they have a four point lead at the top of the table. Rangers have played two less games than Celtic but will now be under more pressure to win them.
Emotions were high before kickoff, when tribute was paid on the 40th anniversary of the Ibrox disaster, where 66 people were killed at an Old Firm game.
