England Premier League Preview: Week 1 (Aug 13-15)

Manchester City will begin their Premier League campaign on Monday when they play host to newly promoted Swansea City.
City will be looking to start fast, after perennial contenders Chelsea and Arsenal both dropped points with draws over the weekend. Also, if City win they will be the first home team to win a game in the Premier League game this season.

Unsettled striker Carlos Tevez will not play for City, while fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero is expected to be on the bench. Edin Dzeko, who scored against Manchester United in the Community Shield, and Mario Balotelli are expected to lead the City attack.

The Swansea defense know they will be in for a touch Premier League opener, and it is made no easier by the fact that Captain Garry Monk is struggling with a foot injury.

New signings Danny Graham and Leroy Lita are expected to lead the Swansea attack, while new signing Wayne Routledge should also play.

Fulham vs Aston Villa kicks off ESPN’s coverage of the English Premier League

The English Premier League returns on ESPN this weekend with Fulham vs Aston Villa airing live at 9:30am EST, on Saturday, August 13.
The game will be broadcasted on ESPN Deportes, ESPN2 and ESPN3.com. ESPN’s Ian Darke and Steve McManaman have been appointed to call the action whereas Darrell Currie will act as the on-site reporter.

As many as 74 English Premier League matches will be broadcasted live on ESPN Deportes, ESPN2, ESPN3.com and ESPN Mobile TV in HD. ESPN will provide pre-match and post-match analysis live from the venues.

In one of ESPN3.com and ESPN Deportes’ exclusive telecasts, the October 29 fixture between Everton and Manchester United will be covered live from 6:55am EST.

Sportsnet and Setanta Sports gear up for the English Premier League’s kick-off

The 2011/12 English Premier League kicks off on Saturday, August 13; Sportsnet and Setanta Sports have combined to offer followers live matches and more.
Both channels have planned to air 5 games of match-day one live. On Sportsnet ONE, the Newcastle United vs Arsenal match will be broadcasted at 12:00pm EST and 9:00am PST.

Meanwhile, the game will be previewed on SoccerCentral—which will be hosted by Craig Forrest and Gerry Dobson. At 2:00pm EST and 11:00am PST, Newcastle United vs Arsenal will be analyzed on the post-game show.

Like each year, 3 teams go down and 3 teams go up. Like each year, only a few teams get to qualify for Europe. And like each year again, only one team gets to be crowned as winners of England’s globally followed Premiership.

The English Premier League is set to resume in about a week’s time. Can Liverpool finish at the top of the table in May 2012?

Kenny Dalglish could lift the English Premier League title in future.Liverpool was the undisputed ‘top dog’ in England not too long ago. With five European Cups and 18 league titles, they were considered the best club side that England had produced. Manchester United, however, took over last season when they won their nineteenth league title.

The EPL needs a new champion. After five seasons of watching either Manchester United or Chelsea crowned champions, the league needs a new team to keep it entertaining.

After all, considering that Lille won the league title in France last season and Borussia Dortmund won it in Germany, the task shouldn’t be considered an impossible one for Liverpool.

Defending English Premier League champions Manchester United are the annual football contest’s most successful club in history, with 18 titles overall.

2011 participants Manchester United have featured in all last 4 FA Community Shield contests.The Red Devils had to share their titles in 1965, 1967, 1977 and 1990 with Stevenson Yeats, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool twice respectively - after their games with these opponents ended as draws - with no penalty shootout taking place to decide outright winners. Sergio Aguero Lands In Manchester As City Look Set To Complete The Deal

Sergio Aguero has landed in Manchester to sort out the final details as his impending transfer to City looks set to reach a conclusion
Aguero used Twitter to announce his arrival at Manchester to finalise matters ahead of his transfer to Manchester City. The Argentine striker has been on City's radar for quite some time and things looks clear for Aguero to complete his switch to English football.

Aguero said on Twitter: "Just landed in Manchester to finalise the details of the move to City. Everything is fine! In a while I'll tell you more."

Rumors suggests that the overall value of the deal is in between £35 to £39 million. However, Atletico Madrid boss Gregorio Manzano earlier claimed that negotiations with City were tough.

ESPN UK to broadcast Live English Premier League Matches

The English Premier League returns in August with Newcastle United vs Arsenal opening the 2011/2012 campaign on Saturday 13. ESPN UK has promised followers some good coverage of the competition.
Ex-Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has been appointed as the lead analyst for ESPN’s coverage of the English Premier League while Ray Stubbs is set to be the presenter. Among the football analysts throughout the season will also be Steve McManaman as Chris Waddle and Jon Champion will bring live commentary from the commentary box. Exclusive stories from the English Premier League’s players and coaches, meanwhile, will be brought by ESPN match-day reporter Rebecca Lowe.

And there will be more than just the live broadcast of EPL matches. As part of ESPN’s multiplatform coverage of the competition, there is going to be ESPN Goals. Ray Stubbs, Darrell Currie as well as commentators Derek Rae and Craig Burley will team up to deliver ESPN’s live coverage of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
Before the month of October, Scottish powerhouses Celtic and Rangers will feature as much as 7 times on ESPN. But 5 matches involving Rangers will come up before November; those will be away fixtures to Motherwell on August 20, Dundee United on September 10, Hearts on October 22 and Aberdeen on October 29.

Manchester United will face a tricky start to their 2011-2012 Premier League season with an opening day match at the Hawthorns against West Bromwich Albion. Not only that, home clashes against Harry Redknapp's Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will follow up after that. Sir Alex's men then head towards Bolton before they will face another big test in the form of Chelsea, which will only be their fifth match of the season. Indeed it will be a daunting start to their season.

The first match for United will be on August 13 at West Bromwich Albion.

Birmingham's Craig Gardner Willing To Exchange Carling Cup Glory For Survival In Premier League

The Carling Cup victory was a huge amount of succes for Birmingham City but Craig Gardner admitted that he would rather swap it for another season of Premier League football.
Birmingham will be facing their biggest game of the season this weekend when they take on Spurs at White Hart Lane, knowing that only a victory would be accepted at the end of the day. The Midlands outfit have only won once at Spurs since 1984 and Craig Gardner admitted that it will be the biggest game of his career.

Birmingham triumphed in the Carling Cup final against Arsenal in March and their leading scorer is adamant that none of it will matter if they do go down to the Championship.

"It's a massive game. Everyone wants to play in the Premier League.The Carling Cup win was fantastic and it's something we will never forget. To lift a trophy for the fans and the club after so long was fantastic.

England Premier League Preview: Week 38 (May 22)

A five way relegation battle will provide the majority of the excitement on the final day of the English Premier League season.
Wigan Athletic and Blackpool currently occupy the relegation zone, while Birmingham City are above them courtesy of a goal difference margin of only one goal. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers are only one point further ahead and will go head to head at Molineux.

Blackpool face a tough task to escape the drop zone as they will face newly crowned Champions Manchester United at Old Trafford. United fans will be in the party mood as the Red Devils will be presented with the Premier League trophy immediately after the game.

Wigan face a tough trip to face FA Cup Finalists Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in their battle to avoid the drop.

West Ham United are already relegated and will complete their season at home against Sunderland with first team coach Kevin Keen taking charge after Avram Grant’s sacking.

The Europa League qualifying spot is also still to be decided, with Tottenham Hotspur currently leading Liverpool by one point in the face for fifth place. Tottenham will play host to BOrmingham City on the final day, while Liverpool will travel to face Aston Villa.

Relegation Battle will be the absolute theme of this weekend's action in the Barclays Premier League. Five teams are still in danger of getting relegated and four matches will determine the two teams that will be doomed of playing Championship football alongside the already relegated West Ham United.

England Premier League Preview: Week 37 (May 14)

Manchester United can seal the English Premier League title with a win or draw at struggling Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
United are closing in on their 19th title, while Rovers need a result to increase the three point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

United will be heavy favorites to seal the championship after beating second placed Chelsea 2-1 last weekend. Blackburn will be looking to improve a run of form that has seen them pick up 17 points from their last 18 games.

Blackpool will be desperate for points to help them escape the relegation zone when they play host to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Blackpool are currently one point adrift of safety and will be looking to end a nine game winless streak in this crucial game, while mid-table Bolton will be looking to avoid their fourth straight defeat.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will continue their relegation fight when they travel to face mid-table Sunderland on Saturday.

Wolves escaped the relegation zone last weekend with a 3-1 win over Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion. They will be looking for another positive result as they are currently only one point above the drop zone. Sunderland are safe from relegation and will be looking for their third win on four games.

England Premier League Preview: Week 33 (May 7-10)

Manchester City will play host to Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday in a game with huge European qualifying implications.
Manchester City are four points clear of fifth placed Liverpool, and will guarantee UEFA Champions League qualification with a win.

Tottenham are currently two points behind Liverpool, and can move into a Europa League qualifying spot with a win. Victory for Spurs will also see them move only three points behind City with two games to play.

Midfielder Gareth Barry and defender Micah Richards will return from injury for City, while star striker Carloz Tevez is an injury doubt.
Luka Modric and Peter Crouch are doubtful for Tottenham, while Gareth Bale is ruled out with a season ending ankle injury.
