Real Madrid are very serious about snatching La Liga’s trophy from Barcelona’s hands. They defeated Real Mallorca on Saturday night to open a temporary 8-point gap at the top of the table.
The game was as tight as the score line can suggest. The Spanish giants had to toil the ground until everything changed during the last quarter of match.

Towards the end of the first period, Tomer Herned put the hosts in front. Real Mallorca were deserving on this lead. Anti-Madridistas could join the home crowd in anxiety; how long would Mallorca hold on to this victory?

At the break, the home team was still in front. Sergio Ramos’ 45th minute effort was not accurate enough to cross the line. His firm header clashed against the post.

Mallorca vs Real Madrid Preview

Tags: Mallorca, Real Madrid, La Liga, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema
In Saturday’s penultimate fixture in La Liga, Real Madrid will be away to Real Mallorca. Mallorca vs Real Madrid will begin at 7:00pm GMT (2:00pm EST).
This game will be Los Blancos’ second encounter away from home this week. Fatigue may be an issue within the squad but Jose Mourinho has an array of top names to choose from. In-form striker Karim Benzema played just over 20 minutes against Malaga in midweek whereas Kaka, Marcelo and Özil went through 45 minutes of action each.

Don’t be surprised if Mourinho doesn’t offer Cristiano Ronaldo 90 minutes of football against Real Mallorca. The Portuguese striker looked angry, frustrated and quite ineffective during Real Madrid’s last two matches in all competitions.

Barcelona vs Mallorca Report

Saturday October 29 2011,
Tags: Barcelona, Real Mallorca, La Liga
Barcelona cruised onto an easy victory over Real Mallorca at the Camp Nou tonight. Lionel Messi clinched a hat-trick to silence his critics.
Against Sevilla, the Argentine forward missed the glorious opportunity of stealing all 3 points for Barca through an injury time spot kick.

This time, Messi redeemed himself by successfully converting a 13th minute penalty goal. The occasion rose after Real Mallorca’s Nsue’s handled the ball in the box.

Lionel Messi doubled his tally 7 minutes later with a shot from 6 yards out. Cuenca and Adriano were involved in the buildup.

The visitors struggled to contain the number 10 playmaker. On the half hour mark, Messi completed his first-half hat-trick. Goalkeeper Aouate was left with absolutely no chance.

Barcelona vs Mallorca Preview

Saturday October 29 2011,
Tags: Barcelona, Mallorca, La Liga
Barcelona will be looking to keep the pressure on Levante and Real Madrid at the top of La Liga table, while Mallorca’s aim will be to win their first match in October.
Barcelona seemed to be on a fine path earlier this season, but their shocking 0-0 draw with Sevilla last weekend just pushed them down the standings. Although they were victorious in mid-week away to Granada, they still need to remain focused and be at their best against Granada.

Obviously, the title cannot be won if efforts are not made in each and every game; and this is also a partially valid fact for Mallorca. Los Bermellones might certainly not be looking at clinching La Liga title, at least not this season. But it is surely a must for them to take every single match seriously so as to avoid shocks and setbacks that will eventually throw them at the bottom of La Liga table.

Mallorca vs Barcelona: Playing Against Barcelona Is Wearying – Michael Laudrup

Saturday February 26 2011,
Tags: Barcelona, Mallorca, Michael Laudrup, La Liga
The Mallorca vs Barcelona match in La Liga later today is supposed to send Barca further in their race for the league title, but for Mallorca’s coach Michael Laudrup, it is nothing less than a wearisome test.
Los Bermellones held the defending Spanish champions to a 1-1 draw in the first half of the ongoing season at the Camp Nou. Yet, an excessive amount of efforts from the visitors caused them to suffer a defeat at home to Espanyol in their following encounter, making them realize how much it took to prevent the Catalans from triumphing.

At this point in time, Mallorca occupy the 11th position in the Spanish League table with 31 points—8 points above the relegation zone. Coach Laudrup has not ruled out all of his side’s chances of succeeding against Barcelona at the Iberostar Estadi; yet, he confessed that getting the right result without losing their physical strength in their following challenge will simply be a miracle.

Mallorca vs Barcelona: Missing Xavi Downplays Barcelona’s Injury Fears

Friday February 25 2011,
Tags: Xavi, Barcelona, Mallorca, La Liga
Xavi is part of three other players who will miss Saturday’s Mallorca vs Barcelona match in La Liga as the Catalans face injury problems.
It’s not very often that Barcelona have more than two key players sidelined through injury. At the moment, however, they have to deal with the absence of four players – three of which are top men in defender Carles Puyol, goalkeeper Victor Valdes and midfielder Xavi Hernandez.

But according to the latter, there is no point making a big meal of an issue that is actually just “normal”. Speaking to Barcelona’s official club website, Xavi downplayed the team’s injury worries as he stated:

“They are minor injuries, not lengthy ones, except maybe Jeffren’s. These injuries are coincidental.

Real Madrid Insist Barcelona Aren’t Yet La Liga Champions

Real Madrid are well behind La Liga leaders Barcelona as they ended the 1st half of the campaign with an unfortunate draw at Almeria. But Mourinho and co refuse to see Barca as La Liga title’s early winners.
An unconvincing performance from Real Madrid on Sunday night saw Los Blancos stumble to a 1-1 draw away to Almeria. The Spanish giants had the chance to overtake Barcelona at the top of the standings for at least a while, but they let this opportunity go away as the Blaugrana’s 4-1 defeat of Malaga created a 4-point gap between La Liga’s top 2 teams after match-day 19.

In a post-match press conference, Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho downplayed fears that the Primera Division was now all but decided - with Barca's Camp Nou stadium being the home of La Liga's title come the end of the season. The outspoken Portuguese man boldly declared:

“This draw is 2 points lost. We always want to win, but there’s the entire second half of the season to be played.

Lionel Messi collects the European Golden Boot.Over the past few years, Lionel Messi’s status as the undisputed world’s best player in terms of the public’s opinion was largely contested by rival Cristiano Ronaldo. According to Barcelona’s Pedro Rodriguez, no-one compares to Lionel Messi who is currently working to reach full fitness following the ankle injury he sustained earlier in September. The young Spaniard declared during a press conference on Friday:

“Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and he cannot be compared to any other player. He is irreplaceable although we’ve won games without him.

A 1-1 draw away from home to Osasuna last week cost Barcelona two precious points, but a win at home this weekend against Mallorca will be enough for them to keep their lead at the top of the La Liga table.

Not the time to relax

FC Barcelona's players during their training sessionThe league leaders’ crushing 6-1 victory against Real Zaragoza at the Camp Nou made many fans believe that the Catalans were back on track for good, as they had previously failed to get a win in two consecutive games.

Well, after such a brilliant result, it didn’t really look like things were at their very best for the Blaugrana, following a disappointing draw to Osasuna trough a late Gerard Pique own goal.

Barcelona still have more time ahead of them to strengthen their foundation, but it is clear that this weekend’s game at home to Real Mallorca will be a glorious chance for them to prove themselves again in front of their own fans.
