How France qualified for Euro 2012
France, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Romania, Belarus, Albania and Luxembourg; that was the final line up from top to bottom in Group D. The battle for the first spot went right down to the final moments of the UEFA Euro 2012 qualification campaign.
Between France and Bosnia-Herzegovina, there was little to differentiate. The latter finished with a 6-2-2 record while Les Bleus clinched 6 wins, 3 draws and only 1 defeat.
The Manchester United left-back was the captain of France during last summer's World Cup where they were massively hit some internal crisis within the team. He was then subsequently suspended for five games following his role in France's overwhelming scene of indiscipline.
Coach Laurent has a distinctive way of working things out. For his first game in charge of Les Bleus, the ex-Bordeaux manager preferred not to call any of the 23 players that had participated in France’s shameful 2010 World Cup campaign. This was his way of giving collective punishment following the disgraceful incidents which had occurred within the country’s national football team in South Africa.
However, Coach Laurent Blanc was quick to remind the public that resentment against any player wasn’t part of his emotions as his task is simply to build the best squad France can have. One of the 45-year-old manager’s philosophy is to blend youth with experience – which explains why the door for Ribery and Patrice Evra to return to their national duties was never closed.
France have freed themselves from Raymond Domenech’s haunting stubborn spirit and from their chains of misery. Les Bleus are relieved that the summer of the year 2010 is now part of the past and that future exists thanks to the logic in this world.
After France’s disastrous World Cup, this period will forever be remembered as one of the worst moments to endure in the country’s history of football. Unprofessional behaviours from key players such as Nicolas Anelka, stunning comments from the ever hated Raymond Domenech, humiliating results on the pitch... what more was actually needed for the French Football Federation to put an end to that agonizing era?
Blanc boldly announced that his side was going to play an attacking game, even though the Brazilians are well-known for their fierceness. He explained to FIFA’s official site:
Karim Benzema opened the scoring with a well worked goal, while Mathieu Valbuena doubled the lead with a goal in the second half. Peter Crouch pulled a goal back to add some respectability to the score line for England, but the French were a much superior team on the night and fully deserved their victory.
The game is a chance for both countries to continue their rehabilitation after disappointing World Cup campaigns that failed miserably to live up to expectations.
Whereas neutral football fans around the world will forever remember the year 2010 as a great celebration for the beautiful game thanks to the World Cup tournament that successfully took place in South Africa, supporters of England and France’s national teams want to forget it as soon as possible. The 2010 FIFA World Cup saw both countries exposing all their problems. In other words, call England and France’s South African adventures a total disgrace – on the pitch like off the pitch.
Having defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 on match-day two of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, France seem to be back on track. Les Bleus are actually in a transition, which makes their hopes to reach Poland and Ukraine more fragile as Coach Laurent Blanc explained:
But as Les Bleus try to restore the pride they lost in South Africa, Coach Laurent Blanc has urged his team to sing the song with pleasure in the name of France’s national team jerseys. As he was interviewed by Reuters, the boss revealed:
“I have personally encouraged players to sing ‘La Marseillaise’. I was sure that some of them didn’t know the words,” Laurent Blanc, who gave a copy of the lyrics to each player, added.
“I think that everyone knows the words to sing it. However, everyone is free to do what they want. But, they are aware of my opinion. I think it’s preferable to sing the song.
The former Bordeaux manager, who will take charge of Les Bleus for the very first time in a competitive fixture, explained to the media last time that the presence of experienced players was extremely important for the success of a team. Now as he was interviewed by fifa.com, Coach Laurent Blanc revealed the difficulty of having to play without play makers as France attempt to build a strong Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. Blanc avowed:
“Every player that improves the play of your team as well as the play of other players is motivating and important. But I cannot replace a play maker with someone who is not a playmaker. We will have to compensate this loss and set up the team differently.
France vs Belarus will mark Laurent Blanc’s first ever competitive match in charge of Les Bleus and the former Bordeaux manager wants to create something new altogether after taking the team’s managerial role away from the controversial and hated Raymond Domenech. In his coaching debut, Laurent Blanc could afford nothing more than a 2-1 defeat to Norway in a friendly match.
Certainly, this result didn’t mark the best of starts for the French boss whose country seriously needs to recover from the alarming situation in which the national team put itself during the 2010 FIFA World Cup especially. On a technical point of view, France will need to improve from their loss to Norway when they will host Belarus in their Euro 2012 qualifying match on Friday. This should help them to avoid committing errors that lead to defeat.
