Will Steve Kean and company be able to take advantage of a very inconsistent Liverpool in the English Premier League on Tuesday night?

Blackburn Rovers will play host to a sputtering Liverpool squad. Kenny Dalglish and his men have come under serious fire with only one win in their last nine games.
After getting bought out this past summer by New England Sports Group, many Liverpool fans as well as neutral fans had high expectations. A long suspension for Uruguay International Luis Suarez may have conditioned the Reds offense, but even with him back Liverpool has not done well.
They arrive at Ewood Park after a draw at home against Aston Villa over the weekend. Liverpool’s last points away from Anfield were at the Molineux when they defeated Wolves 0-3. Since then, they have accomplished a stunning four game losing streak on the road.
Everton could force Liverpool to wave goodbye to UEFA Champions League football on Tuesday night. The derby will tell a lot about the Merseyside Reds’ mental and physical strength.

The 2011/12 Carling Cup champions haven’t won in the English Premier League since January this year. It’s incredible, it’s unbelievable but it is absolutely true. Their 3-0 defeat of Wolves–in reply to a string of poor results against Manchester City, Stoke City and Bolton Wanderers–stands as Liverpool’s last win thus far.
The Merseyside Reds opened the month of February with a 0-0 game against Tottenham Hotspur, their eighth draw at Anfield in the league this season. Liverpool later went on to lose 2-1 to Manchester United in a battle marked by the Luis Suarez-Patrice Evra rivalry.
After losing two glorious opportunities to open up the gap over Manchester United at the top of the table, Manchester City will be hoping to get things right against Liverpool.

The Citizens still lead the English Premier League table ahead of Manchester United. However, they are on top through goal difference only.
Like the Red Devils, Manchester City have 45 points from a possible 57. This statistic certainly looks amazing but Roberto Mancini and his men might find more disappointment than pride from it.
Their failure to clinch maximum points in each of their last two encounters could turn out to be a great loss in the long run. Manchester City are probably feeling the pressure as league leaders and Liverpool have vowed to make things even harder for the Citizens.
We live in an era when it seems to win the accolades of fans in the transfer market, a manager must pour money into bringing big name signings to his club.

This summer in the Premier League, Spanish World Cup winner David Silva, and Argentine goal machine Sergio Aguero are high profile signings who have turned Manchester City into genuine title contenders.
In the coming transfer window, Robin Van Persie, Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres are all tipped to make high profile, big money moves away from their respective clubs.
Despite the opportunity to throw money at proven stars and past glory, Liverpool FC are taking a vastly different approach to the transfer market. Indeed, a pattern is developing where Liverpool sign young players with the potential to be great, rather than proven names who perhaps have already done the best work of their career.
Liverpool are currently in the midst of a 15 day break from competitive fixtures due to international games.

Ironically, Reds manager Kenny Dalglish is spending some of this break trying to deal with a fixture congestion issue.
The Reds are set to play a high profile clash against Premier League leading Manchester City on November 27th, and have been slotted to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a Carling Cup quarter-final only two days later.
The Chelsea game cannot be moved to Wednesday as the police forces in London would be stretched too thin with other events that day. After finding this out, Dalglish made a plea to the Football League to help him solve the problem, but his requests were denied.
“When we ask the Football League to move our (Chelsea) game to a later date, we’re told it’s impossible,” Dalglish fumed to the official Liverpool FC website. “Where’s the logic in that?”
Liverpool will only play three games during the month of November, but all three are against elite opposition and could be a direct indicator of the team’s ability to challenge for honors.

The arrival of Kenny Dalglish has without doubt caused an upturn in fortunes for the Anfield club, and the Reds are currently riding an eight game unbeaten streak in all competitions.
Defensively the Reds have been solid letting in only 10 Premier League goals (the same as league leading Manchester City), and right back Jose Enrique is beginning to be tipped for a call-up from world champions Spain.
At the other end of the field, Uruguay international striker Luis Suarez recently made the shortlist for the Ballon D’or World Footballer of the Year Award.
When you look at the above evidence you would assume all is well among the Liverpool support, but sadly that is not the case.
Liverpool advanced to the Carling Cup quarter-finals in midweek with a 2-1 victory at Stoke City. Luis Suarez scored twice and managed to take some focus away from his racism row with Patrice Evra last week.

The Reds will return to Premier League action this weekend, and Kenny Dalglish will face off against West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson, the man he replaced in the Anfield hot seat.
Hodgson was handed the Liverpool managerial job in the summer of 2010, after guiding Fulham to the UEFA Europa League Final and a 12th place finish in the Premier League.
Hodgson struggled at Anfield, and his reign came to an inglorious end in early 2011. Hodgson was forced out after 31 games in charge, giving him the dubious recognition of having had the shortest managerial reign in the club’s history.
Anfield legend Dalglish stepped into the managerial role after Hodgson’s departure, and led the club to improved results on the field.
Former Liverpool player and current football pundit Alan Hansen has given his opinion about Saturday’s lunch time kick-off between Liverpool and Manchester United.

The Merseyside Reds haven’t lost in the English Premier League on home soil. They began their journey with a 1-1 draw against Sunderland. They pursued their unbeaten record at Anfield with a 3-1 win over Bolton Wanderers before earning a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolves. In an article in LFC Magazine, Hansen wrote:
“Another potentially important factor is the Anfield atmosphere on Saturday. I was at the Bolton game at Anfield in August and while, with all due respect to them, Bolton will never be the biggest game of the season, the atmosphere was electric.
“I don't think Manchester United's players will be frightened by the noise levels on Saturday, but Liverpool's players could be inspired by it.
Due to the expansion of Liverpool’s squad, Dirk Kuyt has to work harder to earn 90 minutes of football in a game this season.

“I'm disappointed to be out of the team,” Kuyt recently told the press in England.
“From childhood, I've always been disappointed when I'm not in the team because I'm desperate to be involved and make a good contribution.
“But it also makes me very determined too. I need to continue to prove myself, train as hard as possible and, when I do play, make sure my performance is of a high standard.”
Dirk Kuyt has appeared in 5 different matches in the English Premier League but he is yet to open his goal scoring account in that competition. In the League Cup, however, the Dutch man netted an important strike as Liverpool hanged on to defeat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1.
Liverpool’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was the most shocking score line at the weekend. A repeat of that fiasco against Brighton will mean an early end to their Carling Cup aspirations.

Last weekend, the Merseyside Reds were expected to achieve a much better result after losing 1-0 to Stoke City on match-day 4 of the English Premier League. But the way they fell to London rivals Spurs was too alarming to be true.
An early Luka Modric goal set the tone for the hosts. Jermaine Defoe eventually doubled Tottenham’s lead in the second period before Adebayor scored a brace. Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel’s dismissals had visibly spoiled the game for Liverpool.
Kenny Dalglish had preached about sticking together ahead of the game but what he witnessed at White Hart Lane was nothing like what he wanted. In a post-match interview, the Liverpool coach singled out his flops as the reason behind the horrifying defeat.
Liverpool fans had shown genuine excitement at the start of this season about the prospects of their team. A raft of new signings had made a positive impact and the club had began the season unbeaten, a run that included a 2-0 win at Arsenal.

However, the first blow against the Anfield club was struck last week when they were beaten 1-0 at Stoke City.
Rather than show a quick recovery from that blow, this past weekend Liverpool suffered a 4-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur, and will now be without Martin Skrtel and Charlie Adam. The duo will be suspended after being sent off at White Hart Lane.
What should be worrying for Liverpool fans is that rather than grit his teeth and fight, it appears Dalglish could be equally likely to adopt the victim mentality that has become so prevalent in today’s game.
Dalglish showed disdain at the two red cards at White Hart Lane rather than focus on his team’s failings, and discussed in depth the fact he did not agree with the penalty given at Stoke. It would likely be more effective if the manager focused on why his team did not score at the Britannia Stadium, or the fact that Jonathan Walters burned Jamie Carragher for pace to win the penalty.
The main formula at Liverpool is to stick together, according to optimistic manager Kenny Dalglish.

During his time at Liverpool, former boss Rafael Benitez was hardly seen with a genuine smile. However, current coach Kenny believes that it won’t do any good for the team to dramatize situations.
Last weekend, the Merseyside Reds suffered a huge setback by losing three good points to Stoke City in the English Premier League. This result appeared to be the biggest upset of match-day 4.
Liverpool absolutely need to bounce back so as to find the good rhythm which saw them defeat Arsenal earlier this season. Kenny expects unity to play a major role in his side’s hunt for a great domestic campaign. In an interview with the club’s official website, the Liverpool manager affirmed:
Coach Kenny Dalglish is cautious but excited ahead of Exeter City vs Liverpool. This game is the highlight of the 2011/12 Carling Cup Second Round matches.

“We had a bad result last year against Northampton at home, and we'll do our best to avoid another bad result,” Kenny Dalglish said according to the club’s official website.
“We want to do the very best we can in this competition and although there will be some changes in the personnel we put out, the attitude should be exactly the same as it was on Saturday at the Emirates.”
Kenny Dalglish may feature a host of fringe players against Exeter City on Wednesday. However, the iconic man insists that complacency has not and will not affect Liverpool. The manager kept revealing his thoughts, stating:
You will find very few Liverpool fans predicting a Title challenge for their team. The reason is not the players on the field, it is merely the humility beaten into them by 21 years of waiting for an English Title.

In addition to the frustration of constant failure to win the league, Liverpool fans have also been forced to watch bitter rivals Manchester United break their record of 18 English Championships.
For a long time the fact that their club had won more league titles than any other is the only straw Liverpool fans had left to clutch, as they argued against the superiority of Arsenal, Chelsea and United.
It was also typical to hear Liverpool fans confidently exclaim in August that this was the year the drought would be broken, only to be disappointed before Easter rolled around.
Ironically, the lack of that optimism could be a big positive for this year’s squad. Pressure is elsewhere, with United expected to defend their title, Manchester City expected to compete after spending billions of dollars and Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is expected to bring immediate success.
The English Premier League is set to resume in about a week’s time. Can Liverpool finish at the top of the table in May 2012?
Liverpool was the undisputed ‘top dog’ in England not too long ago. With five European Cups and 18 league titles, they were considered the best club side that England had produced. Manchester United, however, took over last season when they won their nineteenth league title.
The EPL needs a new champion. After five seasons of watching either Manchester United or Chelsea crowned champions, the league needs a new team to keep it entertaining.
After all, considering that Lille won the league title in France last season and Borussia Dortmund won it in Germany, the task shouldn’t be considered an impossible one for Liverpool.
It’s been made clear now. Sergio Aguero wants to leave Atletico Madrid and he may do so this summer. Should Liverpool spend a lot of efforts trying to rival Aguero admirers Chelsea Man City and co?

Having signed a permanent contract with the Reds a few weeks ago, Kenny Dalglish is now looking to do all it takes for Liverpool to enjoy glorious moments again. Next season, the 18-time English league winners will have a lighter agenda as they’ve failed to qualify for Europe this year.
Whereas some may lament Liverpool’s failure to beat Tottenham Hotspur for the fifth spot in the Premiership, other will prefer to see this as a blessing in disguise. At this point, perhaps, Kenny Dalglish’s men need more time and thus less games in order to regroup, reorganize and grow as a team as Carragher suggested according to The Daily Post:
Could it seem absolutely reasonable to confirm Liverpool as UEFA Europa League spot winners with two English Premier League match-days to go?
Quick Analysis Ahead Of Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool already have the advantage knowing that they lead Spurs with 2 points ahead of this weekend’s action. This means that victory at Anfield over the Lilywhites will seal a fifth-place finish for the Merseyside Reds. The race for UEFA Europa League tickets in England is pretty much a two-horse affair—between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
The winner of the fight could even be decided on the very last match-day of the English Premier League; that is, if the Merseyside Reds fail to beat their rivals from London on Sunday. In truth, aren’t Liverpool the sole combatants for the only Europa League spot which is on offer?
Liverpool have sorted out managerial issues by giving a 3-year contract to coach Kenny Dalglish. Rumours surrounding Ancelotti’s stay at Chelsea, meanwhile, are yet to be buried...

It was in an overjoyed mood that Liverpool legend Dalglish confirmed the news about his status as the Merseyside Reds’ permanent boss now. Football pundits had always tipped the ex-Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United boss to be offered a permanent position at the head of Liverpool’s coaching staff following his appointment as the caretaker manager in January 2011.
The general opinion among Liverpool fans is that the future of the club is bright under Kenny Dalglish and the club’s owners have finally converted everyone’s belief into a 3-year contract. Speaking to English media The Sun, Kenny Dalglish was happy to announce the info by declaring:
Andre Villas-Boas has reiterated that he will not be joining Liverpool in the summer after several reports emerged linking him with the post at Anfield.

FC Porto are getting ready to host Villarreal later tonight at the Estadio Dragao in the first leg of their Europa League semi finals. Porto have been a huge success domestically as well as in Europe this season and their 33 year old manager certainly played a massive part in it.
Andre Villas-Boas has been a massive success with Porto this season, guiding them to the league title and with Porto also still going on strong in the Europa League and the Portuguese Cup, echoes of Jose Mourinho's 2004 Treble Winning squad can certainly be heard around their dressing room.
Having been massively rejuvenated since the obvious arrival of Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool are already planning to battle for the Premier League title next season.

Liverpool have not won the English Premier League since their last triumph in 1990, which was con-incidentally under Kenny Dalglish. From then on, the Reds have undergone a roller-coaster ride that saw them even lift the Champions League in 2005 and the FA Cup in 2006.
However, considering that the circumstances at Anfield are back to a conventional mood, Kenny Dalglish is already planning well ahead for next season's aim and aspirations. Sir Alex Ferguson inevitably started his mind games by admitting that Liverpool must be considered as title challengers for next season after their impressive resurgence under King Kenny.
