After finishing second behind reigning European champions Spain at the 2010 World Cup, the Netherlands enter Euro 2012 with the aim of winning the cup at all cost.

The Oranje lived up to expectations as they dominated a 6-team table containing teams like Finland, Hungary and Sweden. Exhibiting their total football, the Netherlands scored a total of 37 goals and conceded only 8 in the qualifiers.

Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie each finished the campaign with a 6-goal tally. UEFA Euro 2012 qualifiers top scorer Klaas-Jan Huntelaar netted 12 times.

The striker’s prolific run started with a hat-trick away to San Marino on the very first day of the qualification campaign. The Netherlands went on to win the match 5-0. Huntelaar played his part in the next match as his brace secured a 2-1 victory for Finland in Rotterdam. He punished Moldova with a lone goal at the Zimbru Stadium on Matchday 3.

Sweden vs Netherlands Report

Sweden denied the Netherlands a perfect qualification campaign for the European Championships in Solna on Tuesday. The hosts beat the vice World Champions 3-2 to secure a ticket for Euro 2012 as best number two behind the Dutch.
“It was a crazy match. Sweden is celebrating, the players are celebrating”, said Ola Toivonen overjoyed after the win.

The Swedish PSV-striker handed his country the victory, when he scored 3-2 in the 53rd minute. The Netherlands congratulated their opponents, but left the pitch a bit frustrated.

“We completely dominated the match. It’s disappointing to lose this way ”, Rafael van der Vaart said.

UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying: 10 things to know ahead of the last games

The UEFA Euro 2012 qualification stage has brought a lot of thrills, from Group A to Group I. In this article, we bring you interesting facts that have emerged, thus far.
1) As at now, Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar leads the goal scorers’ chart. The Schalke 04 forward has netted 11 goals for his country in 594 minutes - imposing himself over Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who is 2 goals behind, having played 89 minutes less.

2) Sweden’s Kim Källström is presently the top assist maker. The left-footed midfielder has assisted 7 goals in 718 minutes, but he could lose his spot in no time - being followed by 4 players, including his country mate Sebastian Larsson, who all have 6 assists to their names.

3) AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Schalke’s Huntelaar are hitherto the most accurate frontmen in the UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying, with 18 attempts on target each. Barcelona’s David Villa has also showed great energy, but his strikes have somewhat had less effects on goalies, with 17 attempts off target.

The Netherlands already secured a ticket for Euro 2012 but the Dutch squad hope to finish the qualification campaign with a perfect record at Sweden on Thursday. The hosts need a win to qualify for Euro 2012.
Together with Germany and Spain the Netherlands are still on track to record a perfect qualifying campaign. France (2004) and Czech Republic (2000) are the only countries to have recorded a perfect qualifying campaign in the history of the European Championships. In their penultimate qualifying match against Moldova the Dutch were not able to give their home crowd the expected football show. Thanks to a Klaas-Jan Huntelaar goal they grabbed a slim 1-0 victory. The Schalke 04 striker equaled Johan Cruijff’s record for all-time Dutch top scorer in European Qualifying matches with 12 goals.

Netherlands vs Moldova Preview

The Netherlands already secured a ticket for Euro 2012 but the vice World Champions will seek to maintain their perfect record in the qualifying campaign against Moldova on Friday. They will miss some top players due to injuries, amongst them Wesley Sneijder.
If the Netherlands win their last two matches and post a perfect qualifying campaign for the European Championships, they will equal the France and the Czech Republic, who managed a perfect campaign for the 2004 and the 2000 tournaments respectively. Germany and Spain are also track for a perfect campaign for Euro 2012. The Netherlands also hope to break the goal scoring record for a European country in Euro or World Cup qualifying. Spain scored 42 goals in their 2000 qualifying campaign, the Orange squad are on 34 goals from their first eight games, an average of 4,25 goal per match. If they continue that rate in their last two matches the Spanish record is in danger of being broken.

Dutch Snub For Van Nistelrooy As Robben Returns To The Squad.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been snubbed by Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk ahead of the home and away Euro 2012 Qualifiers against Hungary.
Veteran striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been dropped out of the Dutch squad by Bert van Marwijk for the upcoming matches against Hungary. However it seems like the former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker might get a second chance, depending on Klaas Jan Huntelaar's fitness

Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar is struggling to be fit for next Friday's clash against Hungary in Budapest and the return fixture four days later in Amsterdam. Despite Ruud Van Nistelrooy being overlooked in selecting the original squad, van Marwijk hinted that Van Nistelrooy could get the call if Huntelaar fails to be fit in time.

The Netherlands played in their own Capital, but it seemed to be an away match in Amsterdam on Wednesday. The many Dutch Turkish fans in the stands were noisy but they could not prevent their team from losing 1-0. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored again.
The Netherlands played their last match of 2010 and they end the year with the best international record around the world having played 17, winning 15, drawing 1. The only defeat came in the World Cup final versus Spain. Despite their splendid record and despite the noisy atmosphere in the Amsterdam Arena the Orange squad started uneasy. Turkey put pressure on the Dutch midfield, and both teams did not seem to be able to open up the game. In the second half Theo Janssen, who came on for Wesley Sneijder, gave the Dutch midfield a boost. Huntelaar scored in the 52nd minute after Hedwiges Maduro pushed through and provided a very precise assist.
