Last season, there were four Iberian teams in the semi-finals, and the final was totally Portuguese. This season, Spanish sides will certainly try to achieve the same goal. Sporting’s mission is to prevent this historic achievement from happening.
Real Madrid have a crucial game against Barcelona coming up later this week. Distraction could be an issue. Meanwhile, the tactical and physical approach against Bayern Munich may be affected as El Clasico will require Los Blancos to be in top form. Defender Sergio Ramos has called on his team mates to take it one match at a time to avoid blowing everything away during this important period in April.
“We must not think about Barcelona or the Spanish title. We are playing in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern,” Ramos told reporters on Monday.
“We are playing against a world-class team. They have a lot of quality in their team and players like [Arjen] Robben or [Mario] Gomez who can make the difference.”
They share eleven European cups in between them; they are historically the best two teams their respective nations have ever produced; the ambassador of this year’s tournament Paul Breitner featured for both these clubs. And above all, they form the ‘El Classico’ of European football. When Bayern München and Real Madrid step out on the pitch on the 17th of March, the occasion will truly be absolutely spectacular.

Could Everton make an already inconsistent season for Liverpool even worst?
Just a day before the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, not only will this match be emotional; but it will also mean a lot for two sides that have struggled all season.
Liverpool went out and spent over £50 million on summer transfers and is currently sitting in eighth place in the Barclays Premier League. Not only is that not acceptable for a team like Liverpool, but to make matters worst, Everton is currently in seventh place.
FOX Soccer promises live broadcast for Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid and Barcelona vs Chelsea. FX will be in charge of delivering the action at Stamford Bridge and the Santiago Bernabeu on April 18 and April 25 respectively.
The UEFA Champions League has reached its final stages. The match between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid is sure to produce thrills. The spotlight will be on Germany’s dazzling striker Mario Gomez who has scored 11 goals in 673 minutes of Champions League football.

Simultaneously, Benfica and Chelsea will lock horns in Portugal. The Blues will be confident of progressing into the semis following their miraculous comeback in the Round of 16 against Napoli. Likewise, Benfica will be fired up to go further in the Champions League as the only Portuguese team remaining.
Bayer Leverkusen can almost forget about pulling an upset. How many teams manage to defeat Barcelona at the Camp Nou? On Wednesday, Bayer’s task to qualify will require a victory, and an emphatic one.
Zambia vs Sudan, Cote d’Ivoire vs Equatorial Guinea, Gabon vs Mali and Ghana vs Tunisia complete the quarter-final phase’s fixtures list. The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations doesn’t need the weight of continental giants Nigeria, Egypt and Cameroon to be fantastic!
So-called minnows like co-hosts Equatorial Guinea have performed against the odds to give the tournament a special electrifying touch. Sudan have also provided a shock by reaching the quarter-final stage at the expense of Angola. Meanwhile, Seydou Keita’s Mali had to wait until the very last minute to know their fate.
Ghana haven’t hit top form yet and this is why curiosity comes in. How will the Black Stars fare in the knock-out stage against the struggling Tunisians? Do the Ghanaians possess enough fire in their belly to reach the final at the expectations of the public?

Global eyes will once again be on the two spanish giants as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona clash once again in the Quarter-Finals of the 2011-12 Copa del Rey.
The first of the two quarter-final legs takes place in Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 4:00PM (EST). FC Barcelona will be looking to redeem themselves after losing this competition to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final last year. They will also be looking to make a bold statement about their title aspirations since they find themselves 5 points behind Los Blancos in the La Liga championship.
This match comes at a critical time when Real Madrid and Barca are underpeforming as was proven this weekend by unconvincing displays by both teams. Jose Mourinho was able to overturn his side's title threatening 1-0 deficit in Mallorca late in the game whereas Pep Guardiola's men fought hard to overcome a 2-2 score late in their game against Real Betis, which happened to be the only goals conceded at the Camp Nou in the current La Liga competition this season. The Cules were able to return to business as usual at the Camp Nou by winning 4-2 later on in the game.
For the second time already this year, Manchester City and Liverpool will clash at the Etihad Stadium. The Blues hammered the Merseyside Reds 3-0 in both sides’ latest meeting. Midfielder Gareth Barry received a second-half red card but Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and James Milner all inscribed their names on the scoring sheet as the visitors produced virtually nothing from their huge time of ball possession.
This result helped Manchester City strengthen their authority at the top of the table despite the challenges posed by second-placed Manchester United and third-placed Tottenham Hotspur. The gap between City and Liverpool is currently of 14 points in the English Premier League but this statistic will probably not count during the Carling Cup semifinal tie.
The event will kick-off at 6:00pm CET (12:00pm EST, 5:00pm GMT and 7:00pm Ukraine local time) at the Palace of Arts in Kyiv.
The result continues City’s record of having not lost a domestic game so far this season, and ended a 10 game unbeaten run for the Gunners.
The game means rejuvenated Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 11 games, while Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas will have to face more speculation about his job security over the coming weeks.FIFA U-20 World Cup tournaments have strongly contributed in the growth of world football’s top stars. Former U-20 stars Diego Maradona (winner of the Golden Ball in Japan 1979), Javier Saviola, Lionel Messi or Sergio Aguero can confirm this fact.
The U-20 World Cup competition, which was founded in 1977, has seen countries like Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Germany among others top the best performances list. This only makes it hard for one to question the success of those countries’ senior national teams or senior footballers.
This year, it will be no different. The quarter-final stage at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be contested by Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, hosts Colombia, France, Nigeria, Brazil and Spain. With all players involved sharing the unique dream of reaching higher standards individual and collectively in their career, August 13 and August 14’s fixtures promise to be very competitive.
We now know the identify of the eight South American nations that have reach the Quarter-finals. Most were expected to reach this level, however no one expected Brazil and Argentina to be sweating it until the last match for play-off qualification.
The Semi-finals for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup kick-off in a few hours. The USA will face tough competition with France in their 12:00 EST Semi-final. Later this afternoon at 2:45pm EST, Japan will face Sweden in the other Semi-Final.
The United States actually did the impossible against Brazil, which explains why hero Wambach still cannot believe how they managed to book a semi-final meeting against France. Her injury-time equalizer in extra-time turned things around in perhaps the most fashionable manner one could have ever imagined.
Colombia reaches the second stage with seven points, and leaves Argentina and Costa Rica struggling to secure the last remaining place for the quarter-finals. The winner takes all this Monday in Cordoba.
