England vs Ghana Report

A superb injury time goal by Asamoah Gyan earned Ghana a 1-1 draw against England in an international friendly at Wembley Stadium.
Liverpool striker Andrew Carroll had given England a first half lead, before Sunderland’s Gyan leveled matters with a fine solo strike in added time.

The game was an entertaining affair and the tone was set early as both teams had early scoring chances. First Dominic Adiyiah was released before being denied by Joe Hart in the England goal, before Ashley Young forced a good save from Richard Kingson.

England then created another chance when Stewart Downing crossed to his Aston Villa teammate Young, but the winger fired against the crossbar when it seemed easier to score. Ghana soon threatened at the other end, and a Sulley Muntari free kick was met by Adiyiah, only for Hart to keep the scores level with an athletic save.

Why England’s 1-1 Draw vs Ghana Means Shame For England But Victory For Ghana

Tuesday March 29 2011,
Tags: England, Ghana, Jack Wilshere, Joe Hart, Asamoah Gyan
England couldn’t tame Ghana as their friendly ended in a 1-1 draw. A late Gyan show explained that Capello has many problems to solve as Live Soccer TV presumes.
For Fabio Capello, England vs Ghana appeared as a perfect opportunity for the Three Lions’ fringe players to acquire some experience points at the international level. So considering the crucial agenda of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United, there was no need for the Italian manager to risk the likes of Wayne Rooney, John Terry or Michael Dawson.

Those star players already have so much ahead of them to think about with the UEFA Champions League quarter-final stages taking place in April. In short, England vs Ghana was a great fixture to test how far England’s reserves have developed.

I Am Ready To Make An Impact With England - Andy Carroll

Tuesday March 29 2011,
Tags: Andy Carroll, Fabio Capello, England, Ghana
Andy Carroll has promised to start delivering for England on a regular basis after snatching his first goal in an England shirt in the 1-1 draw against Ghana.
The Liverpool forward was given the nod to start against the Black Stars and while he looked sub-standard at times in the first half, Carroll produced a brilliant finish to score the opening goal for England after a fantastic team move by the home side.

Carroll's party was spoiled by Asamoah Gyan as he came up with a genius solo effort of his own to give Ghana a well-deserved equalizer in stoppage time. Nonetheless, Carroll was delighted to have scored his first goal and promised that there is still more to come from him.

England will play host to Ghana in an international friendly at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.
England manager Fabio Capello will field a much changed lineup from the weekend’s Euro 2012 Qualifying victory over Wales. Captain John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney have all been sent back to their clubs and will play no part on Tuesday. Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson have also been released from the England camp and have returned to Tottenham Hotspur.

Capello told BBC Sport this weekend he will make “about seven changes” for the clash with World Cup Quarter-Finalists Ghana. Joe Hart will play in goal and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is set to lead the Three Lions attack. Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines are all expected play in defense for England.

England vs Ghana: Why Only Ghanaian Fans Can Be Angry At Capello’s Idea

Capello has let down millions of fans around the world with his second-string team idea ahead of England vs Ghana. But Live Soccer TV explains why only Ghanaians have the right to worry that much.
So English fans are expressing their concerns at having paid so much money to see reserve players filling the positions of the Three Lions’ top stars, and do they have a point? Certainly, they do. But in a sense, should it matter that much?

The home crowd at Wembley is used to witnessing unimpressive performances from England and responding to poor displays with boos has even become a routine. The average fan may agree with me that the best way to ignore the huge price of a match ticket is to be treated with a great performance by the players on the pitch.

Can Ghana Teach A Lesson To England Debut Boy Danny Welbeck?

Tuesday March 29 2011,
Tags: Danny Welbeck
England starlet Danny Welbeck, who is of Ghanaian origins, will make his senior team debut against Ghana tonight. Will this coincidence transform into a nightmare for the striker?
Following the withdrawal of Spurs’ Aaron Lennon from England’s squad due to a hamstring injury, Danny Welbeck has been called up to fill the hole created. The young forward is fresh from scoring against Denmark last Thursday for England’s U-21 team.

Danny Welbeck has already angered Ghanaian fans through a few comments which he made concerning the prospect of representing the Black Stars. Welbeck, who has played for England at different youth levels, was quoted as saying by Ghanasoccernet recently:

“My mum and dad are from Ghana, so I’m eligible to play for both countries. I spoke briefly to a guy from the Ghana FA when he came to a Sunderland game to watch John Mensah, Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari.

"England Are Obviously Underestimating Us", says Stephen Appiah

Tuesday March 29 2011,
Tags: Stephen Appiah, John Mensah, Asamoah Gyan
Stephen Appiah has blamed England for underestimating the Black Stars after Fabio Capello released five first choice players back to their respective clubs.
John Terry and four other players have been released back to their respective clubs after Fabio Capello decided that these players should have enough time to recover before the crucial Champions League battle next week. That decision has been blasted by Appiah, who believes that it is a symbol of disrespect to Ghana.

"It's like they are underrating the game,” Appiah told BBC Sport.

"A lot of Ghanaians have travelled from America, Canada, from around the world. It's a dream come true. It's huge, it's big and Ghanaians are going to follow the match. Ghanaians are disappointed.

England vs Ghana: Capello To Put Reserves, An Insult Or A Fab Idea?

Tuesday March 29 2011,
Tags: Fabio Capello
The first ever England vs Ghana match at the senior level won’t expose the real strength of both teams. Accuse or thank Capello for that, as he’s decided to feature a reserve team against Ghana.
The highly anticipated England vs Ghana friendly has lost some of its light already, with Fabio Capello the absence of England’s biggest stars. Captain John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Michael Dawson and Wayne Rooney have all been dropped by the coach for Tuesday’s international game. So while Capello is apparently showing a lot of respect to the tough European agenda of these players’ respective clubs, is he also insulting the importance of England vs Ghana?

Supporters have paid a lot of money to fill the seats of Wembley’s 90,000 capacity crowd stadium. If they’ve mainly contributed in generating around £2M already, it’s certainly because of the attraction factor that got created at the confirmation of a match-up between the struggling Three Lions and African giants Ghana.

England vs Ghana Friendly Is Like A World Cup To Ghanaians – Asamoah Gyan

Monday March 28 2011,
Tags: Asamoah Gyan
Capello has maybe taken the excitement off the England vs Ghana friendly, but Gyan is still very much looking forward to it. The Sunderland striker is ready to show what Ghana are made of.
Asamoah Gyan, who experienced mixed emotions in South Africa last summer, believes that the Black Stars made a name of themselves with their impressive display throughout the 2010 World Cup.

The Ghanaian star now describes Tuesday’s international friendly match against England as a perfect opportunity for the African giants to prove that their achievements was indeed the result of efforts and not luck. Speaking to FIFA.com, Asamoah Gyan also hinted that Fabio Capello may regret putting a second-string side against Ghana.

“We promise we are going to give them a good match and we will see what happens,” the Sunderland striker stated.

"You Boo Our Anthem, We Teach You A Lesson", says John Terry After 2-0 Win Over Wales

Saturday March 26 2011,
Tags: John Terry, Fabio Capello, England, Wales
England captain John Terry has stated that the booing of their national anthem by the Welsh supporters inspired them to a 2-0 victory over Wales today.
England were given a hostile reception by the Welsh supporters ahead of kick-off as they booed the national anthem of England. However, John Terry has now admitted that the booing was probably the influential factor behind their important victory.

“It’s not nice [hearing the national anthem being booed],” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s our national anthem and we’re proud of it and when you’ve got a stadium booing it can have the reverse effect for them because it definitely gets you pumped.

“Naturally you’re pumped up for the game anyway but when you hear fans booing the national anthem it does give you an extra boost.”
