Tags: Bayern, Dortmund, Monchengladbach, Schalke, Augsburg, Bremen
The Bundesliga title race is as good as over. The standings as far as the top four are concerned can be settled this week.

Werder Bremen vs. FC Bayern München

In past seasons, this fixture might have acted as a title decider. This season, this fixture is nothing but a side note. Bremen, sitting eighth in the table, is still chasing a Europa League spot. They aren’t doing themselves much...

There is plenty to play for in the Bundesliga this week

Three vital matches take place in the Bundesliga this week aside from the blockbuster between Dortmund and Bayern.

Bremen – Mönchengladbach

Gladbach has virtually almost nothing left to play for this season. On current form and considering Schalke’s current form, third place is seemingly unreachable. They are tucked comfortable in the fourth and final Champions League spot, nine points...

Bundesliga Review: A Weekend of Sackings, Hirings and Improvements

Monday February 13 2012,
Tags: Hoffenheim, Bremen, Bayern, Leverkusen, Hertha, Dortmund, Stuttgart
The Bundesliga coaching carousel has begun once again. Holger Stanislawski and Michael Skibbe lost their jobs while Markus Babel returned to the Bundesliga just four match-days after his sacking.
Hoffenheim looked like a ‘life-less’ side match after match. The club had seemingly taken all the energies out of a lively and energetic Holger Stanislawski. Hoffenheim was sinking deeper and deeper into trouble with every passing week and a change had to be made. Hoffenheim then made a ‘safe’ decision and brought in the Bavarian Markus Babel.

Babel very nearly earned a win for his side in his opening match but was denied by Marko Arnautovic in the 89th minute of the contest against Bremen. Babel’s two former clubs meanwhile played out a one sided contest in Swabia. Stuttgart battered Hertha 5-0. The match saw the reign of Michael Skibbe come to a disappointing end after the coach failed to win a single game in his short tenure.

Bundesliga Review: Stuttgart, Köln, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim battered by title contenders

Monday January 30 2012,
Tags: Schalke, Dortmund, Bayern, Leverkusen, bremen, Mönchengladbach
Bayern continues to lead the way on goal difference in the Bundesliga. None of the four teams which are contenders for the salad bowl dropped points this week.
Schalke was on the verge of losing their connection with the top four. Lukas Podolski struck in the fourth minute and Köln took the lead into half-time. Köln actually held on till the hour mark but Schalke found a way. An unlikely source in the form of Ciprian Marica scored the equalizer. Then, Schalke started compounding misery on Köln.

Marica grabbed a second 12 minutes later. Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored from the penalty spot just six minutes after the second goal. Benjamin Höger added one more just four minutes after the third. Now, that is what you call an ‘attacking force’. While their Ruhr rivals aren’t exactly scoring for fun, they are scoring quite a few too.

Who is the most likely Candidate to Win the Bundesliga title?

Wednesday January 4 2012,
Tags: Bayern, Dortmund, Monchengladbach, Schalke, Bremen, Leverkusen
The top four teams are separated by only four points. This Bundesliga title race has the makings of a very intense and special one.
Marco Reus today dedicated himself to the club that rejected him not too long ago, Borussia Dortmund following the end of the current season. In retrospect, that transfer was a rivalry between Bayern and Dortmund, with Dortmund triumphing again. Bayern had targeted Reus publicly and as we all know, Bayern does not like to lose out in any aspect to their rivals.

Bayern nonetheless has the edge where it really matters- the Bundesliga title race. They are comfortably at the top with a three point lead over the Ruhr sides and a four point lead over Moenchengladbach. Two sides who have contended in recent seasons sit fifth and sixth in table: Bremen and Leverkusen.

Bundesliga Mid Season Review 2011-12

The Final Weekend of 2011 in the Bundesliga ended with plenty of drama as Markus Babbel was sacked as coach of Hertha Berlin.
Markus Babbel is an ambitious man. He spent long years as a player with Bayern and Liverpool and thus has a winning mentality. He perhaps saw Hertha as a club that was not going to move forward. As a result, he opted not to extend his contract and he said as much to Hertha’s general manager Michael Preetz. Preetz according to Babbel refused to be truthful to the media.

Babbel was sacked this week. He will be replaced by Michael Skibbe. Hertha’s final result under Babbel was a 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim in Sinsheim. Hertha is seated not too securely in mid table. Babel’s former team meanwhile secured the Autumn Championship in Bavaria.

German Cup: A Walk Down Memory Lane

Monday October 24 2011,
Tags: Bayern, Bremen, Dortmund, Schalke, Leverkusen
The German Cup (DFB Pokal) returns in Germany this week with two all-Bundesliga match-ups.
Sometimes, taking a look back reminds us of the good times. The German Cup provides fond memories for a lot of club sides when they look back but they also provide bitter ones. Leverkusen suffered a very bitter defeat in the opening round of the Cup this season. They led Dynamo Dresden 3-0 and unbelievably gave away the lead and lost 4-3 after extra time.

Leverkusen was part of the 2009 final- a final infamously dubbed the ‘scared rabbit’ final and with reason. Leverkusen and Bremen both seemed a tad nervous and both wanted to ‘not lose’ rather than win. Nonetheless, a brilliant Mesut Özil won the match for Bremen with a goal in normal time.

Dortmund’s Resilience pays off while Bayern Continues Winning- Reflections on the Bundesliga Weekend

Monday October 17 2011,
Tags: Dortmund, Bayern, Koln, Leverkusen, Hertha, Bremen
The mark of a champion is the ability to win under any circumstance. Borussia Dortmund proved exactly why they are German champions on Friday.
Against Bremen, Dortmund was under pressure from the get go. They took the lead somewhat against the run of play through a stunning goal by none other than Ivan Perisic. Shortly after the second half began, they lost Perisic to a red card. However, they defended stoically and tried to hit Bremen on the break.

They looked the more likely to score and doubled their lead through Patrick Owomoyela. Owomoyela played really well on the day. What will be worrying Juergen Klopp is that he will have to manage without Perisic for at-least one match. Perisic has been one of the best transfers of the Bundesliga season so far.

The win saw Dortmund go up to third, close to FC Bayern in terms of position but not in terms of points.

Leverkusen’s Robin Dutt leaves a few heads shaking in Germany

Monday September 26 2011,
Tags: Dortmund, Bayern, Koln, Leverkusen, Hertha, Bremen
Robin Dutt praised his team for fighting in a match they lost 3-0. Seemingly, he might have feared that Bayern might do to his side what they did to his former side, Freiburg, when they went up by two goals in twenty minutes.
Schalke’s Ralf Rangnick stepped down earlier in the week. He wasn’t up to coaching for the entire season. The pressure had got to him. He needed a break. He wished Schalke the best for the rest of the season. Under Seppo Eickhorn, the deputy, Schalke beat Freiburg 4-2, coming back from 0-1 down. Recent rumours suggest that Huub Stevens will take over the club.

Hamburg sacked Michael Oenning earlier in the week. Under the tutelage of deputy Rodolfo Cardoso, they beat Stuttgart 1-2, coming back from 1-0 down. Both the goals were classy. Robert Tesche’s winner was one Hamburg fans won’t forget soon. Hamburg will seemingly appoint Marco Van Basten or Louis Van Gaal in recent weeks according to recent rumours.

Mertesacker could turn out to be Arsenal’s Best Signing of the Season

Friday September 2 2011,
Tags: Werder Bremen, Arsenal, Germany
A boyhood Arsenal fan, Mertesacker could be the lynch pin in defence that Arsenal fans have been calling out for in recent seasons.
Arsenal’s coach Arsene Wenger has an eye for talent. Despite the recent problems in Arsenal, one cannot deny that Wenger can easily spot unknown players and groom them into fantastic ones. Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Goetze though is already a star. Wenger recently tabled a very high offer for him but had it rejected by the German champions.

However, Wenger then decided that not all Germans are highly talented 18-year-olds. He decided table an offer for a man he desperately needed. The experienced Per Mertesacker knocked on Joachim Loew’s door recently and told him that Arsenal had made an offer for him. The move was soon complete.

Bremen Returns to their Famous ‘Suicide Football’ After a Long Hiatus

Wednesday August 24 2011,
Tags: Bremen, Bundesliga
Bremen beat Freiburg 5-3 this weekend in what was perhaps the best match of the season so far.
There was a time when every neutral Bundesliga fan wanted to watch Bremen almost every weekend. Breath-taking football, last minute drama and unimaginable defensive errors were all part of their game. Last season, Bremen was almost a laughing stock. Their football was miserable and the club was going through a miserable time.

On Saturday, Bremen returned to form as they beat Freiburg 5-3. The Green and Whites are unaware that a game can be won by a score-line of 1-0 or even 2-0. They prefer to do it the hard way- they prefer winning games 5-2 and 5-4 instead.

Bundesliga Season Preview: The Action and Drama Starts This Friday!

Tuesday August 2 2011,
Tags: Bundesliga, Dortmund, Schalke, Leverkusen, Bayern, Bremen
The Bundesliga gets going this Friday. Are you ready?
Let’s start off with a piece of history. The only team that denied Bayern from winning at least one Bundesliga shield in two consecutive seasons was Borussia Dortmund. Does Dortmund have enough to beat Bayern this season? We will find out.

Bayern invested heavily in the summer to get together a defence worth talking about and to get some back up forward players. Their biggest signing was obviously Manuel Neuer from Schalke. Dortmund meanwhile parted company with Nuri Sahin but Ilkay Guendogan, the new man, has seemingly already fit in perfectly.

“This game is important for us. It’s 10 out of 10 and that’s what every player who will enter the pitch will think.”

Tottenham vs Werder Bremen: Will Spurs Beat Bremen’s Stance To Reach The Last 16?

Wednesday November 24 2010,
Tags: Tottenham Hotspur, Werder Bremen, Champions League, Harry Redknapp
Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of creating history. A victory over Werder Bremen tonight will put Spurs in the Last 16 of their first ever Champions League campaign. Incredibly, that’s a fact for the debutants.
As they seat on top of Group A with 7 points, a win at White Hart Lane will seal Tottenham’s qualification into the next round of the competition even though it will not guarantee them a top spot finish. Harry Redknapp’s men are doing remarkably well in the Champions League.

After stunning titleholders Inter Milan on match-day 4, here they are with an opportunity to accomplish their long-time dream: qualification for the Last 16 of the continent’s most prestigious club tournament. Inter Milan vs Werder Bremen: Coach Schaaf Confident Despite Injury Worries

Wednesday September 29 2010,
Tags: Inter Milan, Werder Bremen, UEFA Champions League, Thomas Schaaf
Facing Inter Milan at the San Siro in the Champions League is always a huge challenge. Now although Werder Bremen have injury concerns, Coach Thomas Schaaf remains optimistic ahead of the game.

Werder Bremen's Thomas Schaaf will have to deal with huge injury worries as his side will clash against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. Both Bremen and Inter, like Twente and Spurs, have one point from one game.Nothing has changed in Group A; all four teams have a single point after drawing on match-day one. It looks like chances are open for any side to qualify for the Last 16 even if it seems too early to make such analysis. Actually, Group A’s contenders are yet to prove which team has the most potential on the pitch but Coach Thomas Schaaf wants Werder Bremen to beat Inter Milan tonight.

“We know how good Inter Milan were last season. They won everything they could. We are looking forward to meeting them,” the manager explained to UEFA.com.

“They are a great team, with the same qualities as ever. Inter Milan will probably try to score from the start, but we don’t want to just sit back. We want to show that we can be tough opponents.”

Inter Milan vs Werder Bremen: Cambiasso Positive Despite Injury & Eto’o Threat

Inter Milan lost to AS Roma last weekend in the Italian Serie A, so how will they fare against Werder Bremen in the UEFA Champions League? Esteban Cambiasso prefers to stay positive...
Internazionale have experienced mixed results this season and the team is yet to adjust to Rafael Benitez’s plans since Jose Mourinho’s departure. A 2-2 draw against FC Twente was all that the UEFA Champions League titleholders could earn in the Netherlands as they kicked off their 2010/2011 European campaign two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Group A contenders Werder Bremen picked exactly this same result at home to Tottenham Hotspur that same night. However, the Germans may be the happiest of all four teams in their table based on the manner in which they drew. The fact that they succeeded in grabbing at least a point, after going down by two Spurs goals, offered more positives than negatives to Werder Bremen and to their supporters.

UEFA Champions League Match-day One Review – From Group A to Group D

UEFA Champions League titleholders Inter Milan drew 2-2 away to FC Twente while Barcelona trounced Panathinaikos 5-1 as match-day one of the competition showed interesting results…
Group A: FC Twente 2-2 Inter Milan; Werder Bremen 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur

It finished as it started. All four teams are leveled with a point each, having all played out a 2-2 draw in their respective fixture on Tuesday night. FC Twente and Werder Bremen would be the happiest, though.

In the Netherlands, Dutch international Wesley Sneijder opened the score sheet for the visitors inside the 13th minute of the game before Theo Janssen cancelled out the Nerazzurri’s lead seven minutes later. Diego Milito unluckily damaged Inter Milan’s chances to win the match as he scored an own goal on the half hour mark.
