Group C matches take place on Wednesday, January 20th. Already qualified Egypt play Benin while Nigeria and Mozambique battle it out as well for a place in the quarter-finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.

The defending African champions and Group C leaders Egypt will face the Squirrels of Benin at the Estadio Nacional de OMBAKA in Benguela at 16:00 GMT.

This game and the Nigeria vs Mozambique encounter will both be played simultaneously.

Yet, having already booked tickets for the next round, the Egyptians are indubitably the side with less pressure among their three other contenders in their group.

Egypt

Egypt top their table with a maximum of 6 points out of two games, and they are already assured of a place in the last 8 stage of the tournament.

They will eventually be fighting Benin with the option of controlling the future of Group C's three other contenders, based on the fact that their final group stage encounter might decide who – among their group – will join them in the quarter-finals.

The 2010 Africa Cup of Nations will continue with Group C teams battling it out on Tuesday, January 12th.

In the first match of the day, Egypt and Nigeria will clash up against each other at the Complexo da Senhora da Graca stadium in Benguela.
The game is scheduled to start at 16:00 GMT with the Pharaohs of Egypt playing as the home side.

Later on, the Mambas of Mozambique will come up against the Squirrels of Benin at the same venue but at 18:30 GMT. Next up, we talk about Egypt and Nigeria before analyzing the Mozambique vs Benin match.

Next, we stop in Benin, where we take a break to know more on the country and its run to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, in Angola.

Benin – the country, the football

The beach in BeninThe Republic of Benin, a West African country officially recognized by the name of Benin, is the neighboring territory of Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger.

It has a small area of just about 112,622 km2, with a population estimated to be around 8,935,000 people.

These days, football is said to be one of Benin’s most interesting sports; however, there is no doubt their national football team Les Écureuils (meaning The Squirrels in English), are lacking of success.

Benin have qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations only twice in their history – excluding their qualification for the 2010 edition in Angola – but unfortunately, both occasions turned out to be negative for them, as Les Écureuils were unable to reach the quarterfinals stage.
