One team seeks La Liga title glory while the other simply wants to remain in the competition for another season. This is what Real Valladolid vs Real Madrid will be about on Wednesday, May 7, 2014.

Real Valladolid will host Real Madrid on May 7, 2014Preview: Two ‘Reals’ and two very different purposes to win

Madridistas are thorn between the feeling of disappointment and satisfaction following last weekend’s result at home to Valencia. Los Blancos had to come from behind twice to snatch a point through a 2-2 draw. The fourth goal of the game was “a miracle” as Cristiano Ronaldo back heeled the ball into the net without even watching.

With very few seconds left on the clock, Ronaldo again scared Valencia’s goalkeeper in the box but his header was off target. The final whistle went up with neither side being able to claim victory.

It represented Real Madrid’s first ever draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga. It was also the third time that home supporters were prevented from celebrating victory. But above all, it meant that the Spanish giants, possessing a game in hand, failed to join Barcelona on 85 points and close the gap to three points against league leaders Atletico Madrid.

The game against Los Che is gone. Real Madrid’s focus is now on taking full points away to Real Valladolid. Likewise, the latter want to record their second consecutive win after beating Espanyol 1-0. The hosts have three games left and every point will count as the battle for survival reaches its climax.

Real Valladolid are 19th in La Liga with 35 points but they could rocket into the safe zone should they take maximum points from their game in hand. The task against Real Madrid is enormous but certainly not impossible. It was in their stadium that Valladolid left Barcelona speechless after forcing them to a 1-0 loss on March 8. If Real Madrid suffer the same fate, their title hopes will suffer a great blow and Carlo Ancelotti knows it.

“It's a final. It's a decisive match for both teams. That's the attitude we have to have. The only chance we have of being La Liga champions is by winning all three matches,” he told the press on Tuesday

“That's our goal. Atlético has the advantage, if they get four points, they win the league. Our goal is to win all three matches and see what happens.”
