Juventus can move closer to wrapping up their domestic campaign with a victory over Serie A debutants Sassuolo on Monday evening.

Preview: League leaders Juventus take on strugglers Sassuolo ahead of crucial Europa League clash

Simply put, the match up between Sassuolo and Juventus is akin to the Biblical tale of David versus Goliath. The Neroverdi, who are featuring in Italian football's top flight for the first time in their 92 year history, currently sit in 17th place, with a dismal 28 points and only are out of the drop zone due to the slightly better head-to-head versus Bologna.

However, with just three games remaining after today's, each and every point is crucial to the bottom placed clubs, as a draw here and there can make the difference between returning to Serie B or sticking around for another run in Serie A.

As for Juventus, the Bianconeri are on course to retain their Scudetto crown, but have seen the champagne repeatedly put on ice due to Roma's stubborn refusal to give up just yet. The Giallorossi, who posted their ninth consecutive win to move back to five points behind the league leaders, are certainly keen to make this title race to be a closely contested one for as long as feasible.

Yet, given that they are coming off the back of a difficult loss to Benfica in the Europa League, Antonio Conte's men will naturally look to get back to winning ways as a confidence booster for the make-or-break return fixture on Thursday. Certainly, all odds are in favour of the visitors, as in the last time the two sides met, Carlos Tevez grabbed his first hat-trick for his new squad as they cruised to an easy 4-0 victory.

Additionally, to make matters worse, despite having strung together three games without defeat (with victories against Atalanta and Chievo and a draw with Cagliari), the struggling outfit will again be without the services of attacker Domenico Berardi who will miss out on featuring against his parent club due to a ban and key midfielders Davide Biondini and Simone Missiroli as a result of suspensions of their own. And as if that was not bad enough--a whole slew of players, including Francesco Acerbi, Luca Marrone, Thomas Manfredini, and Matteo Brighi--are all unavaliable to coach Eusebio Di Francesco due to injury.

Although their opponents will have one eye on their upcoming Europa League clash with Portuguese powerhouse Benfica, Conte may or may not opt to field a solid line-up as he has nearly everyone available to his disposal save for midfielder Arturo Vidal. The Chilean international, who has quickly become an integral part of the side since signing from Bayer Leverkusen, has been struggling with a knee injury and could possibly require surgery.

All in all, this match is important to both sides for different reasons. Indeed, for one, a point (or more) could move them one step closer to saftey; for the other, victory will move them back to +8 ahead of Roma with just three games remaining and ever closer to retaining their league title.
