Real Madrid’s match winner in the hotly contested Copa del Rey final against Rivals Barcelona, Gareth Bale, has expressed his delight in winning a first trophy against Barca and Madrid can claim the treble in 2013/1d.

The Welshman – now in his debut season for the Madridistas after transferring from Spurs – netted a sensational late winner to leave the Blaugrana stunned at the Mestalla in Valencia.

“It’s a dream come true, not just because I scored but because of the work of the whole team,” Bale said.

“It was really special. We’ve won the first of the three available titles and we have to keep fighting for everything. But now we have to be thinking about the next game and nothing else”.

“This win is for all the fans and we hope that it will be the first of many to come. Thank you all for your support during the season. We have worked hard as a team”.

The fleet-footed former Tottennham man is no stranger to scoring remarkable goals but to have scored in the fashion he did – a run the length of the field that forced him to momentarily get off the pitch – in a cup final made it all the more special.

"I actually scored a similar goal for Wales not too long ago where I had to run off the pitch so I was just trying to get round him any way I could and carry on," he continued.

“I had to sprint, Bartra pushed me and tried to block my path but wasn’t able to,” he added.

“I had to go around him. It was great to score the goal but even better to win the match and pick up a title for Real Madrid.

“The atmosphere was fantastic. It has been a perfect night. I’m delighted to have won my first title with Madrid. I think we could go on to win even more this season.”
