It is the kind of game that every football fan wishes to see irrespective of whether they are fans of either of Real Madrid and Barcelona or not. And this time, besides obvious bragging rights as the 2013/14 season draws to a close, there is an extra incentive – the winner gets to take home the prestigious 2014 Copa del Rey trophy.

More often than not, the the right to deride others is given to the fans of the team that won the most recent El Clasico. But objectively speaking, is it the Catalan giants or the Madridistas who have faired better overall in past El Clasicos?


Taking all competitions into account, the numbers put the capital club slightly ahead of their rivals.

And again, Real Madrid have proved better Barcelona when it comes to adding gloss to their El-Classico scorelines.

And at the Mestalla Stadium, where the clash was scheduled to take place, Real Madrid have enjoyed more victories, having run out 2-1 winners during the 1936 cup final and again in 2011 with a 1-0 extra-time win.

The Blaugrana are nonetheless slightly better than Los Blancos when playing in front of their own fan with a 57% win percentage versus Madrid’s 56%.
